View Full Version : Fuel Pump Question...do you know if.....
EBvette 05-15-2007, 10:46 PM Has the factory (before they shut down production), put the NEW Fuel Pump on production cars being built in April? Does anybody know when they started to put the new Fuel Pump on 335i being built? My car was built on or about April 8th, I will be picking the car up next week May 23 at the performance center....I am really thinking of NOT accepting delivery until the car is fixed (although I have already paid in full for the car). What do you people think?
Anybody know the answers?
Many thanks....
brokenbimmer 05-15-2007, 11:26 PM Not sure exactly what you are talking about. I am the recipient of a replacement fuel pump for the problem with cars built before October 2006. As far as I know, the problem was isolated to those cars (mine was built in September 2006). If yours is a new build, you shouldn't have the fuel pump problem.
NickA325is 05-16-2007, 12:15 AM I heard of a guy who had his car for 90 miles and the fuel pump went out on him. This happened within the last week, so I'm sure they have not fixed the problem on newer cars. My car was a September build date and the fuel pump went out 3 weeks ago. I still don't have my car back.

Where was that guy located? Wondering if the "Ethanol is to blame" story has teeth.

In Week 3 myself.
EBvette 05-16-2007, 08:50 AM What I am asking is this, my car was built last month around April 7, would I have the replacement (the correct fuel pump) on the car? Did the assembly line get the non probmatic fuel pumps and when did the get them to put on the cars at the factory being assembled?

How many miles did you have on it? Seems like there is a lot of these failures in CA. I know there are a lot of 335's sold in CA, but it still makes me wonder too if there is something to do with the fuel blends mandated there. :shifty

This is the unofficial story I've been given from the Service Man. at Century West.

Beer Goggles 05-16-2007, 07:40 PM You're car will never have the problem, and if it does it will be fixed. It's hard for me to say you need to demand a fix for something that isn't broke, and in reality has a low percentage chance of being a problem. Enjoy the car and stop looking for reasons not to..
brokenbimmer 05-16-2007, 09:18 PM Hmmm... My car was a CA car. Now an OK car with the new fuel pump. Running GREAT! Beer Goggles is right. Enjoy it, it is a great ride!

I'm still driving the car and seeing what the problem is with my iPOD disconnect. I'm not mad, nor worried that I should demand it being fixed. All cars have problems, and chances are your car will have to go into be fixed. I haven't had a car that hasn't had some "TSB" or problem. Not really worried about it.
2002Z3 05-17-2007, 01:50 PM All cars have problems...
I know you are just trying to get these people to relax and I commend you for it, but not all cars have problems up front when new.
My 330 didn't have a single problem until about 40K miles and 5 years. I work for Hyundai and KIA and have had 2 company cars - neither of which had any problems in 2 years. I also had a 1993 Nissan Altima that didn't have any issues at all until 70K miles. Even my mother's X type Jaguar (known for problems) has not had a single issue in 3 years.
Relax and enjoy is a good philosophy, but when your car dies on you and the fix takes from 3 to 8 weeks, that's a little hard to take. At least BMW is taking up the lease payments for some of these people. :)

The person DOES NOT have a problem yet. If those other cars are so reliable, why are you driving a BMW, lol.

Dude, my car's already been in the shop for 3 weeks. I wish I could sit back and enjoy it. Unfortunately that's the way the ball rolls.
Hope your fuel pump doesn't fail in the ethanol state we live in. Buena Suerte.

AEarlM 05-17-2007, 02:05 PM Anybody have a fuel pump problem taat owns it outright? Is there anything the would/could offer instead of a few lease payments? Credit towards my next bimmer, perhaps?

Again, all cars break and they take time to fix. I waited a month for a part for my NEON in 1998, did it suck not having my car, sure, but part of life.
CrazyBimmer 05-18-2007, 01:11 AM Has the factory (before they shut down production), .
err my car was produced this week so when did they ever shut down production? :nono
I cant wait for my 335i even with the fuel pump issues. Only time i will start complaining is if my pump fails and im out of my car for over a month.
Then I will Lemon it, otherwise I will enjoy the only car that makes me drool. (in the price range)

You should be good to go- afaik there has been some sort of modification made to the HPFP in order for it to tolerate the Real word better. Hopefully that's true.

Didn't I clearly post that my BMW 330 did not have any problems either? :confused That is why I bought a Z3... It has had a couple of minor issues all covered under warranty - none of which requires 4 weeks of downtime or more. My brother bought a new 318is back in '92 and had no issues until it was 10 years old.
Again, my point is that not all cars, including some BMWs, have problems when new - or even for the first 5 years. It may be your experience that all of your cars have broken down when new, but it's not mine. Sorry :D
