View Full Version : Passenger Cup Holder!!!
06 325i Guy 05-15-2007, 10:24 AM Alright, had my bimmer for a little while now, and no problems. I have a little over 7k miles, and finally it happens! My dam passenger side cup holder has given out. Has anyone had this issue, or does anyone have a quick fix? I dont want to make a warranty appt for this for the stupid cup holder, but boy oh boy do my passengers miss the thing!
06 325i Guy 05-15-2007, 10:25 AM I should clarify a little... the cup holder does not slide out when pressed... instead it seems it is being hung up, cause if you jimmy it a little with a credit card it will eventually pop out.
Mademan9 05-15-2007, 11:04 AM If I were you I would bring it in to BMW. My friend had the same problem on his z4. Thats what your warranty is for.
droptop335 05-15-2007, 11:50 AM If there's one thing that annoys me the most about my 330i, it's the cupholders. I know BMW reluctantly put them in to appease Americans' need to use their cars as a rolling restaurant, but those damn cupholders always rattle (at least mine do). My SA says there's nothing wrong with them, but every time I have a water bottle in one of them, the whole thing rattles like it's about to fall apart! (I know, it's a CUPholder, not a BOTTLEholder...). Rant over.
Emory 05-15-2007, 01:18 PM I had the exact same thing - that passenger cupholder would not come out when pressed. Just take it in. I heard what you said about not wanting to make an appointment, but the dealer will replace it for free. What's wrong with that?
Of course, the other option is for your passengers to NOT drink in YOUR car!
P.S. I once saw an article on-line about how Americans shop for cars. In the top ten list of features that were important to buyers was ... the number of cup-holders. I kid you not.

Amazing...I am an abashedly proud American, but sometimes I'm ashamed too...
Beer Goggles 05-15-2007, 02:05 PM Why is it bad to want convenience in a car? While I don't like the cup holders where they are, I do need them when I bring my coffee to work in the morning. I usually use the one in the back seat arm rest.
335eye 05-15-2007, 03:22 PM Cup holders are like sex. Even a bad one is better than none.

Nobody said it was bad to want convenience in a car, but to make the number of cupholders one of your TOP TEN CRITERIA for choosing a car? Puuuuleeeease...

List your top 10 criteria...I don't know if there is 10 to list. Try it out and you'll see that it fits in.

You stretched the shit out of the list...
Cup holders would fall into convenience/ergonomics, which is a very high thing to consider, and like you listed things that fall into the broader category..."cup holders' is just like listing supportive seats, part of a bigger picture. If I had one complaint it's about the cupholders right now, which people seem to not like where they are...must be important ;)

I don't think we need to get into an argument over this...I'm just trying to point out that there are lots of things that COULD be important over and above cupholders, especially the NUMBER of cupholders, in a car, which is what started this conversation. A car could have great ergonomics (like the 335), but lousy cupholders, and conversely, a car could have generally crappy ergonomics (like many American cars), but great cupholders...so you'd have to separate them out. I would still take the great ergonomics/lousy cupholder car over the other way around...
