Let me set a small backdrop for this kill. Growing up I have always loved the Z car, still do to this day. My first car was a 1979 280zx turbo that my parents got me since they couldn't afford the one car I wanted back then, the 300zx.

Well i was coming home after dropping my girl off at home and I pull up to a light and the first car on the left lane is a black 300zx the body style after 1990 but i believe it might have been a bit newer than 1990. Anyways he has stickers all over it, and a loud as exhaust and he keeps reving his engine up. I have a car in front of me at the moment and I was thinking to myself how it would be to race it.

Well the car in front of me eventually turns and I can hear that the whole time the guy is keeping his car in a lower gear and just cruising and waiting for me. So i pull up next to him going around 30 and just floor my pedal, my auto downshifts and takes off on him. Of course he wasn't ready for that one, it was more of a teaser. So right now i am about 1.5 car lengths ahead of him and I hear him reving up and coming behind me. When he gets to around my rear door he downshifts and punches it, he gets even with me and at this point i punch my car and just take off on him and leave him behind. He never got even with me before i just left him behind.

I slowed down and waited for him to come back up but he never did. He must have been a bit embarassed in front of his girl that he lost to a sedan.

It was a bit of bittersweet triumph since that still is a car i have always loved...but hell i'm loving this car more now...

And the car had the body kit of a Twin Turbo on the back but no badges indicating it was a twin turbo. I would say it wasn't at all a twin turbo becuase i figure if it was it might have left me in the dust :D

Well that's my first kill story for now...hopefully i will have some more.

nice kill ... your 540i looks great! love the color and wheels. yea you ran into a NA 300zx. they put out 222hp stock. and that explains your results. but you'd be surprised i'd bet ... even with your slushbox ... you would hang a bit with a stock 300zx TT. they are very heavy and weigh almost as much as your car. stock they put out 300hp in the manual and 280hp with the auto. your car running and auto 300zxTT ... would be closer than you think.

My first car was a 1979 280zx turbo

Was it an 81? The turbo wasn't available in '79. Unless of course you put a L28ET in it.

I had a '79, Metallic Brown. Biggest pile of feces I have ever owned. Not that I didn't love it though, it was just abused by the prior owner and I inherited all its problems. I sunk $1500 into it and finally left it at the garage after they drained 6 quarts of gas from the crankcase.

It was a '79 body...the first engine flooded, then I had the place put in a salvage yard turbo engine. The car lasted for about another 6 months before i just put the car to rest.

my second car was a z32 twin turbo and i can tell ya, it doesnt take alot at all to make a 300zx twin turbo fast. their only downfall was their crappy undersized brakes and IF they are running right.

- the n/a 300zx is really slow, so it was possible that you did run a twin turbo possibly not running in tiptop shape. By your description of it being some kid slapping all these stickers on it i sersiouly doubt he can afford the maintence of a twin turbo z.

and to the guy saying auto twin turbos are slow, everyone in the Z community know that the auto z32 is faster than the stick one to 100mph.

- anyways, props for your kill man :round

Nicely done, I feel your pain. I owned two turbo Z31s for a while. Wrecked the '84, and the '85 caught fire (stupid stupid fuel injector rail TSB). That car was fun as hell and good looking. Not the fastest stock thing by any means, but not horribly slow either.

Z31s and Z32s both have/had an awesome aftermarket, which is where they really shine. It is not uncommon for modded turbo Z31s to make about 250whp (from 200 bhp) for under $2k in bolt-on mods.

Replacing the turbo, fuel pump and injectors will get you into the 350-400whp range.

From there.. well the sky is the limit. There are some guys out there pushing 500whp in their turbo Z31s off pump gas..

Still love them to this day, may get another one if I find a deal.. :D

Congrats on the kill again, regardless.

I was going to say...wtf! Guess you explained that. ;) I had a 76 280Z. Fun little POS! Can't believe I didn't kill myself in it. When I was test driving my Roady some buy in a 280Z turbo (he had turbo in vinyl on the window) gave me a nod and a thumbs up. Figured if a Z enthusiast liked it, then the Roady was a worthy vehicle. I6 FTMFW!!!

Yeah i had so many problems with it but i loved the car. That thing was solid though. All steel and the only fiberglass was the headlight housing lol.

It got to the point with the new engine that it would just shut off while driving and like it was second nature i would just turn the key off and on release the clutch while it was in gear and rolling down the highway and have it restart...brings back a lot of memories.

THe only reason i thought to myslef that it was a TT was the fact that it had the rear spoiler and the front end had the slits in the bumper like the turbos had. He had the car debadged so i couldn't tell if it was or just modded to look like a TT.

sounds like he was just posing like a TT. I love z32s but driving the n/a was a big dissapointment. Those TTs are something else.
