so i was driving north of birmingham (going to a friends wedding) when i caught up to a new corolla that had an xrs badge on the back of it. i really didn't know what an xrs was until i got home and did some research. anyway it is equipped with a somewhat faster motor and a 6 speed tranny.

well i cruised right by this guy and it looked like he was just chilling. anyway about 5 minutes down the interstate he flies by me going downhill. i floored my car and pinged my govorner but he was already like 1/4 ahead of me. i finally caught up to him and waited for a good opportunity to run this guy. well it finally came! we started down another hill with hardly any cars around and he started to speed up fast. i let him have about 1/2 car length on me before i floor it and...... well i start to pull easily on the guy. i think i got up to about 114 mph or so before i had to brake and then he did a ricer flyby...

anyway not too bad for a corolla, looks like they'll at least do a little over 120 mph. anyway pretty easy kill, and bimmers are interestate beasts (ok maybe the 325i isn't a beast, but it can hold its own on the interstate.... no 0-60 drag racing for me though)

i recently test drove a Corolla for a co-worker...WOW they suck. I had also just driven a Sentra which made the Corolla feel more like a boat. How bad does a car have to be to make a Sentra feel like a sports car??

I dont know about you pulling "easily on the guy" unless you are modded. My friend has a 2004 Matrix XRS with Injen CAI, and that gave my ZHP a nice run for its money from a roll....The ZHP could only pull 1-2 cars on him 20-120.....Its a little easier for my E90, but not by much.......Good kill anyways....

Yeah, the Corolla XRS is very rare and somewhat quick, for a car that costs $18K!!! And yes, the Matrix XRS is pretty quick as well [In reality, the Matrix is the Corolla hatch.] It has the more powerful Celica GT-S engine, runs 60 in about 7 secs or so and has a sport tuned suspension, 16" wheels, 6-speed manual, etc. Like I said, for a $18K car, it's not bad, but the engine needs to be redlined to get any power out of it, it's still only a 1.8L. They don't make them anymore, due to poor sales, people who buy Corolla's do not modify them much, they are people who look for reliability and good fuel mileage. I would know b/c I used to own a Corolla and it was nearly impossible to find parts for it.

Anyway, good run, and yes, they pretty much die down after 3rd gear, so that's why you had a good advantage. The XRS has a governed speed limit of about 130mph.

I 'raced' a Matrix XRS from a start and we were dead even up to about 40, i started to pull away from him after that but had to shut it down at around 50 at which point his bumper was at my gas cap. I was kind of confused afterwards, dindn't really feel like much of a win, i was definitely expecting more of a slaughter.
