View Full Version : L6 trans still a problem Bluesman 05-13-2007, 11:10 PM I replaced the Transmision control unit. no change still in safe mode any ideas. It will only drive in third and reverse.:help dm635 05-14-2007, 10:01 AM there is a large circular connector that plugs into the left side of trans. has about 7 pins inside and it can get ATF inside the plug. i would try removing the connector and flush it with an electrical spray. if it's dry inside, just re-seating the connector may help. i had this work on an e23 with same trans. the connector is held on by a locking ring that needs to be rotated and then it pulls off. thelastsumurai 05-17-2007, 10:03 AM HI, I had same problem and all it was the connector, it was not properly reinstalled. Disconnect the battery and then remove the connector to the transmission computer (I assume you know how to get to it) and reconnect it make sure it snaps all the way back in, it can look like it's all the way in when its not. Good luck Bluesman 05-18-2007, 01:57 PM I reinserted pin and still no change.I haven't tried what DM635 has sugessted yet because I don't have a garage so getting it jacked up high enough is problematic but I will try it. If anyone else has any suggestions I am open to them this is frustrating thanks all dm635 05-18-2007, 04:19 PM the 735 i had the problem with was just what you descibe. was stuck in 3rd gear. the connector comes from the trans ECU. Bluesman 05-19-2007, 01:38 AM I am not sure what you mean DM635? I have replaced the ecu still no change. remember this is bluesman your talking to you have to explain like your talking to a six year old.Are you saying I can access the clip from the inside/ I am referring to the one you said may need to be removed and sprayed with cleaner if contaminated w/ATF? thanks for your patience:) dm635 05-19-2007, 07:25 AM bluesman,no the connector i'm refering to is only accessable from under the car. it is plugged into the transmission on the left side. it is a rather large plug and different than any other on the car. remember that it is secured with a locking ring(part of the connector) that must rotated to unlock and rotated again to lock back in place. Bluesman 05-19-2007, 11:11 PM Thanks for all the help. I was actually looking thru my manual and looked at the wiring and saw where there is an 8 prong connector near the DME and I thought well I changed that awhile back when I put a chip in and I checked and sure enough it was disconnected and when I plugged it back in, My trans is working fine now. Moral of this story do the job right the first time and avoid headaches and expenditures. Thanks again especially you DM635 for all your help.:redspot |
