Hey guys just got this new 02 6 speed M3 last week and in like 1-4th gear at lower speeds if you tap the gas and let off theres like a slapping, or a banging, didn't know if something needed tightened or if this could be something serious, it did it alittle when i first got it but seems to be worse, I do some burn outs but it worries me, it still shifts fine, and doesn't really do it when you let out the clutch other then once and awhile from first at stop ?

bump... could it be the rear or something in the drive line broke or loose, my cousin had a similar promble in his e36 m3 when a bolt in the rear snapped,

Backlash noise from the gearbox. The gearcut, er, angle of the teeth cut per gear and the use of synthetic oil, contribute to the noise heard.

Sounds normal. Search for "clunk."

Check the rear subframe to see if it's torn.

how many miles do you have on the fluid in the diff. when i bought my car it had slop in the rear end I changed the diff fluid and it completly went away. I used royal purple because I got a good deal on it.

I sheared the differential mount bolt on my '01 M3 coupe and I had similar symptoms. There was a definitive clunk or thud coming from the rear end of the car as soon as you fully depress the clutch. It pretty much happened within 5-10 miles that it got worse and louder and then it left me stranded and wouldnt move at all.

btw, that bolt is apparently always back ordered and not commonly stocked and I havent had my car for 5 days now.

I thought there was something wrong with the differential or subframe mounts until I got under the car and looked for myself. I could plainly see where the bolt had sheared off and the bolt head was just chilling right there too. Check out the diagram, the bolt I am refering to is #2 http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=BL93&mospid=47714&btnr=33_1065&hg=33&fg=05

i think the rear may need re built, the axle is loose where it goes into the diff alittle
