Figured I might want to post pics at some point so I should get me some posts.

I was all set to replace my 01 S4 with a lightly used 07. Went and drove the newer S, looking forward to the 8 growl and torque....but was kind of left wanting. The pure sound of the 8 is not the same as in the A8. They slap all sorts of outboard drive chains on the engine accessories to make it fit in the smaller car. The sound of that really bothered me...its just not the same as the 4.2 in the a6 or a8. Ya its a smaller car but the gear whine combined with the fact that performance wise my twin turbo variant is as good left me questioning the very high price. And to add, I like the feel and interior of my 01 better! The newer one seems slightly cheaper inside.

Never thought I would be in a BMW. I always viewed the audi interior as superior and the quattro as a no brainer in Canada. Then I saw some posts on s4 forums on the 335....hadn't even been aware of the performance/value of it and had been turned off the late model BMW styling. Then I read about some of the dyno tests and the true output of the plant....then the easy TT mod to squeeze out more. hmmm...maybe closer look.

The beauty of turbo's.....I had a 3rd gen rx7....easy mod to insane power, then the 01 s4, same thing....the non turbo 8 in the newer s4 started to look like a dead end.

For the first time in my life I entered a BMW dealership (I hate dealerships of any type). I proceded to crawl around a coupe, had my kids get in the back...hey daddy this is bigger in the back than your car! I was impressed with all the little touches in the car.

So coupe it is, space gray, sport, comfort, black leatherette....cuz you can't tell the difference and I have young kids, grey poplar trim.

Not looking forward to 1 wheel drive in the winter but the idea of having rear wheel drive is kind of appealing from a purist perspective.

They tell me end of freakin august!

Good going!

Denton, good choice on your selection of models.

Don't be afraid of any RWD model. The AWD models are good cars and have a place in BMW's scheme of things. However, realize they were created for the North America market. If it wasn't for us, they wouldn't exist.

Look at Europe, there is plenty of snow and mountains in Germany and other northern countries. Volvo switching to front wheel drive caused the Ford buyout. Europeans believe premium cars should be RWD.

The xi and 4matic models were an ingenious way for BMW and MB to compete in North America. Instead of ruining their cars with FWD as Volvo did, they came out with high quality companion models to their main line.

I live in snow country, the local dealer sales three xi models for every i model in the 3 series. However, they sell very few xi models in the 5 series.

Why aren't Europeans in snow country afraid of RWD models?

Winter tires!

My wife's E500 with winter tires performs better than her brother's 325xi with all season tires.

While the xi models have a place, for me and my European feelings I want RWD only.

BTW
I live in Ohio's snow belt with a yearly average snow fall of 80 in.
