saint166 05-13-2007, 01:26 AM well boys chalk one up for the bimmer lol i finally won a race . after spending the evening cleaning my car for sunday i decided to go for a short cruise . i drove through the ledge and i was back up albert going south and i see my prize a black very new 350Z. mmmmmm im salivating lol i make a u turn to catch up . i kept following down albert not really giving any sign i wanted to race except driving in second gear at 4500 rpm lol . we catch the light on avonhurst i look over and notice he has his wife or gf with him so im thinking he prob wont go . i took off from the lights just keeping pace and low and behold he goes so me never one to back down to a race i get on it hard i catch him right away pull when i hit second and i shut it down at 120 in third with 3 cars on him . damn i have always wanted to see how i would do against one of those . new car against a 10 yr old bimmer 300hp to 240hp and the M won . i was pretty pumped lol . but those 350Z's are a sweet ride but still no match for an old M lol . p.s. i posted this in my local bmw club forum and the 120 was in kilometers
swollenmember 05-13-2007, 01:40 AM We know....we know...;)
noice race!
BavariaMotorist 05-13-2007, 03:29 AM With your mods, I don't think it's fair to say you have 240hp.
Even gearing swaps, although no power yielded, effectively multiply torque which is big.
count3rkill3r 05-13-2007, 07:02 AM nice
McoupeBobby 05-13-2007, 07:11 AM with that insane 3.91 diff your car hallz ballz
l3it3r 05-13-2007, 09:21 AM I'm very disappointed with 350Zs. They're great looking cars, but don't have any power. I was a dyno day a few weeks ago, and there was a guy with a 350Z that had about $4k in mods (intake, manifold, exhaust, heads, etc..) and the car put down about 255whp and 250wtq.. VERY PATHETIC. There were a bunch of SRT4s there that had similar $ amounts invested putting out over 400whp.. lol
My buddy's Turbo E36M put down 350rwhp I think.
and the best $ -- mod car there was my bestfriend's SRT-8 putting down 468 rwhp and 570rwtq with less than $1k in mods!
shifty711 05-13-2007, 09:42 AM OP, Nice kill, Im sure the gearing made a big difference in the outcome.
You should try an 07z now, if you can take one of those down ill give you big props.
l3it3r : You comparing apples and oranges when comparing NA and FI. We all know a small amount of mods can do wonders on FI.
P.S Im a dick, sorry man, i dont know why i said that.
l3it3r 05-13-2007, 10:04 AM shifty711, you sound like you got embarrassed by one. But I can't blame u, it IS a neon. I feel the same way about hondas. Only reason I bought it (almost 4 years ago) was because I was a poor Private in the Army. Now I can't get rid of it.. it's been for sale for like a year now :( I REALLY want either an E39M, E500 or S500 or a MagnumSRT8 (that's my list, so far I'm leaning towards the E500 or the Magnum SRT8 based on reliability)
I'm simply remarking on how UNIMPRESSIVE the numbers from a 350z are. I would have been embarrassed to have been the dude at the dyno day with one of the most expensive cars with the LEAST horsepower of the day. And it wasn't like he was running a stock car either, it had a bunch of stuff done.
shifty711 05-13-2007, 10:46 AM Im an asshole, i didnt mean that, i dont even know why i got so fired up.
stanksbeamen 05-13-2007, 10:49 AM Sorry to be offtopic, but its not always about who has the most money put into their cars and the most power. Some people do it because they're enthusiasts so what, not always bout the big numbers...
Back on topic:
Very nice kill, i cant seem to pull on my friends stock 350z, after about 75-80mph he inches away.

Whoa...
First of all, what year? This sounds likely to be an earlier model (03-04) which makes a difference in the engine output.
Second of all, $4k or X amount of dollars does not equate to modding success. You can't say, "Well, the other guys had $4k in their cars and made more power!!!!" because $4k doesn't represent anything.
Third of all, getting power from a high specific output NA engine is not as easy as removing some air restrictions.
Fourth of all, perhaps you don't realize how EASY it is to mod a turbo car to make more power.
Fifth of all, if he is actually making 250wtq, he has increased his power by a lot unless the dyno was wrong or inflated (which tends to be the case) as stock 350Z's make 260 lb-ft of torque.
Sixth of all, I would never trust a cheap dyno to give me actual power numbers. I could trust it to tell me how much I've made in gains and if I produced a good result, but for giving actual power output, cheap dynos can be absolute BS.

VQ's aren't as responsive to mods as a lot of other engines. But just because someone supposedly has $4K in mods, doesn't mean the car was done right. (anyone who mentions "heads" on a VQ raises a red flag) FWIW, '07 350Z's have dynoed around 270RWHP on a Dynojet. Also, without a consistent reference (a baseline dyno using the same dyno under the same conditions), dyno numbers mean squat.
In defense of the Z, you're getting a great all-around package at an excellent price. A 13 second two-seater sports car with excellent handling and a comfortable interior all for under $30K? That ain't pathetic.
Elusive303 05-13-2007, 06:32 PM Wow your car does 120mph in 3rd? :rolleyes My 4th doesn't even get to 120.
Elusive303 05-13-2007, 06:34 PM Nevermind your in Canada you guys go by KPH. Ooops! :D

Yeah, thats what I was thinking..
I think my fourth tops out at like 113..
Chris328is 05-13-2007, 09:50 PM with a 3,23 i get 85mph in 3rd
115 in 4th
135 in 5th or more idk yet I have to check it out, but I'm kind of scared
