I collect Vintage guitars and mods devalue fine guitars. I asked dealer about tinting windows and the German CA said it looks like a drug dealer and they come with a slight greenish tint. He then pointed out how a 7 series on showroom floor with tint had the lines of the interior masked. Call me a boring purist...

OK, you're a boring purist.
And this car won't be a vintage given the number that will be sold.
Don't understand what "the lines of the interior masked" means. Can you clarify?

My point was modifying guitars, cars, etc. tailor to the tastes of the owner, but typically decrease the value to a collector. We're talking about brand new BMWs so perhaps my point is moot. The CA was simply pointing out when windows are tinted you can't see the lines of the interior trim, or the beauty of the interior styling. Does that make sense?

P.S. I'm also posting frivolously to get to 20 posts so I can post pictures of my new 335I because some people were asking to see it. Sorry...

Understood. You'd think they'd change the requirement for photos so people wouldn't have to resort to frivolous comments in order to qualify.

I'm not bothered by people not being able to see the lines of the interior. I think the exterior speaks for itself, and the tint helps to enhance it in my opinion. I also like the privacy factor. It is hard for thieves to see anything left inside my car.

Will post a photo just to make you envious.

I think tinting is practical and offers benefits such as:

1) Improvded daytime driving visibility (not as much glare and need for sunglasses)
2) Lower interior temp
3) Less visibility for thieves
4) Nice flow of the car's lines (especially if tinted appropriately to the car's color)
5) Less road rage I have found since ppl cant see who is driving there is no one to get mad at

Your car is no doubt a nice looking vehicle, but the fact that you are posting on bimmerforums speaks volumes. I had a silver 2001 MBZ CLK430 and by the time it had 50K miles I was more than ready to return to BMW The Ultimate Driving Machine. In other words, the stodgy looks, constant repairs, Cadillac like handling, etc. made me sorry I felt the need to 'upgrade'. No offense mate...:cool

Since this forum was already hijacked, here is the counterweight to the MERC pic above. I feel absolutely zero jealousy for anyone driving any mercedes short of perhaps an S 600. Those big boat handling characteristics and slushh box trannies make me happy to be driving the Ultimate Driving Machine
