Hi all,
My throw-out bearing is toast, so naturally i'll be getting the entire clutch done while the trans is out. How much should I be expecting to pay at a local indy shop? Thanks!

In January I had to get my clutch done and replace both my master and slave cylinders on my 90 535. The total came out to be about $2100 for parts and labor at an indi shop. I suspect that you have a dual mass flywheel like mine, which I have been told are difficult to resurface. If your flywheel is toast then replacement with another dual mass is expensive ($1000). The other option which I ended up doing is replacing it with a single mass flywheel from an e28 535. This option is much cheaper and set me back only $400.

$350 plus parts if you want me to change it for you. It'd have to be done on a weekend, but I've got a lift etc in Eastern PA, just outside of Allentown.

Please note that the speed limit while on the lift is 45MPH.

:rofl
PO of my car had it done for 725 - 400 labor, 325 clutch, possibly including the throwout bearing. I don't believe any other major parts were changed (like the flywheel or hydraulics).
I'm wondering how hard it is to DIY without a lift. Anyone attempted it? Did it result in anything more than a concussion, a new record for curses per minute, and a ride on a flatbed to the dealer after all?

The PO spent around $1000 at an indy getting it done in my car.

I've done an iX on jack stands in about 6.5 hours. It is not a fun time.

Thanks for the replys and thanks for the offer X mon.
The indy I usually use is actually very cheap and good and he estimated it to cost me $550 for parts and labor. We'll see what happens.

Yup, that's quite reasonable to say the least. Good luck with it.

My 540i ran around $1100 for parts and labor. He did everything while he was in there. He even worked till 9:30pm on that saturday to get it done so I could beat a snow storm.

Just got the car back. It feels amazing! :redspot
While in there they also replaced the guibo which was cracked and falling apart. It made such a big difference in the smoothness of the ride.
All in all it came out to be about $750 for parts and labor. The clutch was destroyed, teeth missing, etc. and the bearing exploded releasing all its balls. Poor thing.

I was just quoted $2,459.55 from an indi shop.
Clutch 531
LSave Cylinder 144
Flywheel bolt (9) 16.29
Pilot Bearing 19.90
Flywheel 978
Add 630 for labor and my wife is now not a happy woman.
I haven't pulled the trigger yet....on fixing the car that is.:(
