View Full Version : Im doing it anyways
Kufan 05-08-2007, 09:42 PM So i have talked to a ton of people about s/c my 325i automatic. Its a 2001. Its dead even with the amount of people who say dont do it and people who say do it. Im tired of talking about it and im just going to do it. Its my dd and i can say i wont drive it that hard all the time. Im buying th VF kit that will have me running 6psi. Havent heard anything bad about the Vf kit so i guess everythings cool with it. I understand it will fuck my tranny up but i can handle it as long as its not right off the bat. everyone i talked to said if you treat it good then it wont brea right away just sooner then normal. Anyone have any last minute advise?
325icintn 05-08-2007, 09:52 PM Emergency fund or second car, since you know it will eventually break.
Maybe graduate from school first would be good, too.
Kufan 05-08-2007, 10:02 PM hahaha. You talk like im going to put the kit on and the next day the cars going to break. Ill be fine as long as i dont fuck around a lot. Ill grad dont you worry. But i still have more school after i grad. medical fields a bitch. I have found at least five cars that were auto's and supercharged. This guy went 40k on his s/c auto and then put a new torque converter on and hes fine and his car has 200k on it. VF is really helpful and put me incontact with a couple guys they did s/c for. All of them said dont run it hard unless you want a new tranny and money out your bank.

Kufan 05-08-2007, 10:41 PM Why so much neg. You have someone do this before and have bad time? I have been trying to get to the bottom of this for a while now. Would i be better off with full ex,heads, intake, and cams. Or should i just stick to the s/c. Im not sure why its such a big deal to s/c my auto as long as i dont run the shit out of it ill be fine. I know ill have to change the tq converter but not for at least a year.
GodFather 05-08-2007, 10:42 PM but YOU DO want a new tranny...sheeeet, get a manual...so slap on the charger it will give you the perfect reason to get a manual ;)

No, I'm saying start saving now because you will need a tranny and you don't know when. Plus, a person making your choices doesn't show the kind of self control to not f*** around.
You solicited advice, so don't complain.

why get a supercharger if you can't enjoy the car and drive it hard :confused

Did you grow up in Kansas?
BabyM 05-09-2007, 12:26 AM Why so much neg.
because you are about to spend a lot of money doing something to your car that will have a known and predictable detrimental effect on your car --a car that is apparently your only means of transportation (barring public transit or your bicycle...or your feet...).
A more pragmatic approach would be to either get a car with a manual transmission already, or upgrade your current transmission to say, a ZF tranny ...or spring for a 6 speed.
This will save you not only downtime in the future but also cost you less money by eliminating a problem before it occurs rather than fixing something that has broken (along with everything else that breaks or suffers excess wear in the process).
finally, as a previous poster said, what the bloody hell is the point in adding a serious performance upgrade to your car if you are going to drive your car as though it will break? :confused
Kufan 05-09-2007, 02:39 AM HmMMMMMMM i dont know what to do. I cant part with the car it has to much suspention done to it. And its a nice show car. Im looking for more power. If i did cam ex intake and heads how much power would that give me and how mutch would it cost parts and ruff labor est.
1991bmw 05-09-2007, 03:36 AM I'd throw in a 5 speed manual cuz that'll give a bit more fun to drive, and then start building up w/ mods after that.

Kufan ... what's with you ???? you have 3 threads all asking the same question:mad stop wasting our time asshat!
TommyX® 05-09-2007, 09:58 AM Contact Level Ten (http://www.levelten.com) about any transmission upgrades you can perform.
I would also seriously consider enlarging the transmission oil cooler. It wouldn't hurt. I'm sure Level Ten will have opinions on that too.
ASCH MAN 05-09-2007, 10:38 AM For someone going to medical school, you may want to work on your grammar a bit. It would not be cool if you spelled a prescription incorrectly (is that Penicillin or Flonase to treat the clap?)
Getconnectedav 05-09-2007, 10:45 AM Flonase. HAHAHAAA
325icintn 05-09-2007, 10:46 AM he said "medical field", let's hope it's not as a doctor.
I wonder if he's told mommy and daddy about his plans with the car while he's in school.
ASCH MAN 05-09-2007, 10:51 AM he said "medical field", let's hope it's not as a doctor.
That's true, he could be training to be a Dental Assistant. They are good with the suction.
Geno325is 05-09-2007, 01:44 PM for shits-n-grins I called up L10 for a quote - $3900 ( full trans mission build with upgraded bands and discs and valve body ) + $998 for tq converter
Geno325is 05-09-2007, 01:59 PM I get ya, but 6psi is FTL
Kufan 05-09-2007, 03:49 PM So i cant spell lol. Its true i take all my papers to the writing center we have at ku. im rocking a 3.7gpa right now and im taking 18hours dick. For your momy dady joke suck on it. ON the 3rd of jan i got hit off the road by a 07 escalade while on my motorcycle. The lady didnt stop and five people saw it happen and her tags. My family took her to court and we won. I spent a week in the hospital with two broken wrist and a laceration on my foot. It cut two of my tendons in my foot and i had to have surgery. I think i well deserve the money i got. Her husband was CEO for yellow the trucking company so they had money. Geno325isI get ya, but 6psi is FTL
Whats FTL
I think im going to get the kit then when shit starts to mess up call L10
O i have picks of my foot if anyone wants to see them. They are crazy.
Geno325is 05-09-2007, 04:33 PM I was sayin 6psi F-for T-teh L-lose , you will want more boost after that, i promise. then level 10 time
Kufan 05-09-2007, 04:40 PM Still dont get it FOR TEH LOSE I know ill want more power but for now ill be happy with the increase.
KingKong 05-09-2007, 04:51 PM Kufan,
What Geno said is true. You will get used to 6 PSI real fast and will want more, more and more. I think most of the VFE SC Stage1 owners will echo this sentiment, myself included.
If you know that you have all that power under the gas pedal, the temptation will be there to step on it - and we all succumb to that every once in a while. Afterall, we won't be on this board (the FI board in particular) if we weren't enthusiasts in the first place.
Kufan 05-09-2007, 05:05 PM True i will want to get on it but i do have a cbr1000rr and that takes a lot of my speed out of me lol. When i get in my bmw after being on my bike for a while i just like to drive normal. But you know when your driving normal and some car comes up and starts to mess with you thats when i need the power. Thats why i want this kit. My car looks fast but its slow. I know im sitting here saying ill be easy and its hard to believe but since i dont want o buy a new tq converter right off the bat i will be forced to be easy well kinda easy just not have the pedle to the floor all the time.
GGray 05-09-2007, 05:16 PM I use to drive my Miata as my DD car it had 7psi of reliable every day power...You should be fine. I would do it for a DD. The supercharger is not as hard on the driveline as a TS or turbo.
You should have fun with it.
325icintn 05-09-2007, 05:17 PM Sucks for your accident. Don't take stuff to personally or you won't have any fun on this forum.
In all seriousness, go ahead and set aside money for the tranny today since most of your money is from a settlement and not income. Those settlements go away fast, and you could end up in debt to pay for a tranny.
As a fellow rider, I really don't want to see pictures of your foot.
Did you happen to buy that black widebody e46 that was for sale?
325icintn 05-09-2007, 05:17 PM I use to drive my Miata as my DD car it had 7psi of reliable every day power...
Was your miata an auto?
Kufan 05-09-2007, 05:45 PM I have money. I work. I just dont want to spend any of my own money on this. lol. I was just playing around when i called you a dick. I can pay for a new tq converter if i have to i just dont want to. I wont endup in debt but it will just suck cause i wont have as much bar and alcohal money for the year lol. what kinda bike you riding. You done anything to it. I have a 05 cbr1000rr
GGray 05-09-2007, 05:56 PM Was your miata an auto?
No but it had the crappy small diff case that literally would blow apart with more than 8psi of boost..
I have a bike :D custom Guru Flite, full Dura Ace, human powered:buttrock

At least you don't pamper yourself with extravagant, high-end toys. Serious tri-ath, I assume.
I've always preferred mountain bikes. I've had mine for a long time. Amp B2 frame with F2 fork, full Shimano XT with the index and friction thumb shifters (can't find those anymore). 22.5 lb full suspension :D
My roadie is a strange one. Raleigh RT600 with an aluminum front triangle and light steel in teh rear. very comfy.
Kufan 05-09-2007, 09:32 PM Next year the bikes getting FI. I cant wait for that. I ran a 9.0 last year at the track here in kc on my bike. That was my old bike before i got in the reck. I havent upgraded my new one yet but will soon. You know what sucks is i cant find anyone in kansas that will do my install for my VF kit. On june 7 im having a porsche tuner shop do it. They are well know in kc for their custom porsche stuff. O well the kit shouldnt be that hard for them, after all they work on porsche s/c all day. This bmw dealer said they would install for $2300 lol. I passed on that offer.
pilot650 05-10-2007, 01:43 AM What are you in school for? I am in the Surgical PA program at UAB. 6psi is not enough boost. I had a carbon fiber 03 954RR which I had to sell when I blew the motor in my M3 at Road Atlanta. They are far from anything that would be called cheap. In retrospect it would have been better to total my car and use it for parts and buy another one. Oh well, at least I have a brand new engine. But it's kind of a bad thing because I don't want to track it now as I have little confidence in the engine. Anyhoo, FI is FUN, but not cheap. Good luck!
Kufan 05-10-2007, 02:20 AM For right now i am going to be studying in the same thing. Next year ill be a softmore. I have to get all my classes out of the way so far so good though. What year are you. i have a 3.7 and im ahead with my classes because i have been taking more hours than needed.
BabyM 05-10-2007, 02:25 AM Serious tri-ath, I assume.
cyclist...though close enough ;)...and he's serious enough to own a shop promote races and sponsor a team (which i was fortunate enough to race for before I moved to california) --so he had better have a nice roadie!! :D

I am in my 2nd year of grad school. So you want to get into PA school one day? There are only 2 surgical programs in the country and UAB is by far the better of the two. I was a firefighter/paramedic in atlanta for 12 years working 112hrs/wk so I had a LOT of medical experience, which is required most places if you expect to get in so keep that in mind. It is easier to get into med school so that is always an option I suppose. You just need a good MCAT for med school, you need experience and a good GRE for PA school. GPA is not important as long as it is 3.0 or better. I interviewed a lot of places and everyone who applies has a high GPA so don't expect that ot get you anywhere. Good luck!
mr rolleyes 05-10-2007, 12:42 PM I think im going to get the kit then when shit starts to mess up call L10
O
for the money to do the level 10, you can easily do a 5 speed, if not 6 speed swap, also it would be more beneficial to your car and the SC.
or can you not drive a manual? could this be the underlying issue?:rolleyes
i cant spell either;)
Kufan 05-10-2007, 02:09 PM I can drive a stick. The first car i had was a stick. I drive my dads vet all the time. You see when i baught the car i wasnt really thinking about s/c it. It wasnt till later that i wanted to. If i had that goal in mind the whole time i would have def got a stick. Plus when i bought the car it had all new suspention and brakes...ect, i knew the guy and he used to work for saleen in cali. The car was treated well and it already had tons of money put into it. I wanted to do that stuff but he already had it done, plus i couldnt pass on the rims he had on their. I cant seem to find them or know what they are called. Whos better AA or VF it seems like VF's kit is more conservative and AA has more power?
JClark 05-10-2007, 02:35 PM Whats the point of getting the blower if you're not got to drive it hard?
Kufan 05-10-2007, 03:44 PM No i can drive it hard just not all the time. My friends selling his POS civic i think im going to buy it and use that for my dd. that way my bmw tranny will last longer. It will give me more time before i have to get the new tq converter.
M3/4 LIFE 05-10-2007, 10:46 PM But you know when your driving normal and some car comes up and starts to mess with you thats when i need the power. Thats why i want this kit. My car looks fast but its slow.
Frankly ... 6psi on an AUTOMATIC heavy e46 325 is still gonna make for a pretty slowish car. :confused The auto tranny will not keep the s/c in it's powerband. I can't help but think you really are throwing money away and ultimately you may not be as satisfied as you had hoped. an automatic e46 325 is not a great platform to boost. but ... mo powa 2 ya. i wish u the best with it. any chance you would consider a tranny swap?
Kufan 05-10-2007, 11:08 PM I would def consider it how much you think it would run me.
ReiheSechs 05-11-2007, 02:53 AM :lol3
If you've got a bike that satiates your "need for speed" why not just keep your current car stock? Sell it sooner and get a better car - it's frankly retarded to spend ~5k? on a kit and then additional money when the transmission explodes.
I haven't looked at the kit, but I doubt you'll be making more than 275?whp so I'd just save to buy a M3 or something along those lines
Kufan 05-11-2007, 06:43 AM Ill be running like 250whp, but thats night and day for my car lol. Im not trying to build a monster. I just want more power for the day to day strugle. Everyone hates to loose, my bmw looks fast but its slow. People always try and race, it would be nice to beet more than half the cars out their. I like the car and i dont want to sell it. The color is rare for a 325i and all the suspention thats done cost a ton. I think 250whp isn't bad for a dd. the kits completely reversible worse that happens is i dont like it and i take it off and sell it on ebay. Ill loose some money but who cares. Why wont my auto keep the S/C in its power band?
ASCH MAN 05-11-2007, 08:34 AM When this is all said and done in a couple of years, you would have wished you just sold your 325 and purchased a quicker car to begin with.
To each their own. If you think you will want the car to go faster at a later time, just bite the bullet now and go for a turbo kit.
325icintn 05-11-2007, 08:57 AM ... Everyone hates to loose, my bmw looks fast but its slow. People always try and race, it would be nice to beet more than half the cars out their. ...
How are your gonna beat cars without driving hard?
I've asked before, did you buy that black widebody for sale on ebay?
What do you mean your car "looks fast"? A stock 325 doesn't look fast at all.
M3/4 LIFE 05-11-2007, 12:58 PM Ill be running like 250whp, but thats night and day for my car lol. Im not trying to build a monster. I just want more power for the day to day strugle. i dont think so. supercharging a manual e46 325 "MIGHT" put down 250whp. your auto tranny and the power robbing Torque convertor WILL PUT DOWN LESS. thats a fact!
and GEARING/SHIFT POINTS is why your auto wont keep the s/c in it's optimal power band. you state "I'll loose some money but who cares" .... in the end .. you will care.
Kufan 05-11-2007, 01:04 PM o sorry didnt see that post about the black.. NO i didnt buy that one. My 325 isnt stock. Its lowered has 18" rims, drilled and slotted brakes, It has the lip wing on the back like the m3 does. Tinted windows ill post some pics on here soon. it looks just like the m3 without the brake breethers on the side. My car would handle better than a stock m3 any day. I dont have the power to stay with one on the track though. The guy that had the car before me worked for saleen, in cali and he did all the suspention work to the car. Wonder how can you do a G test on a road course.

Very unlikely. what sprins/shocks are you running? What C/O's?
Don't be so cocky regarding your car. Be realistic, it's only for your own good.
Kufan 05-11-2007, 01:15 PM My ecu is redone by GIAC and it will fix the problem. I can shit with the maul/auto mode. Check out VF's web page they have dynos for a stock auto 325i. Im am almost positive ill get 247whp. I have talked to couple people who have done the vf on their auto car and they had around 250whp but they had ex. The whp isnt in questioned here, that can be proven, what was in question was the tranny and i have figured it out. I bought a new dd and when the tranny starts to slip ill send L10 my tq converter and for $1200 they will beef it up send it back and everything will be cool. AA said that's all you have to do to keep the tranny healthy. So did Vf and L10. My tanny will be ok for a while, but as soon as it slips they said stop driving it and send it to L10. :)
Schneller Bayer 05-11-2007, 01:43 PM whatever course of action you take, good luck.
However, you are a little young to use the "give'r til she pops'' mantra, you must have some cash. Still, best of luck.
Care to enlighten us on your suspension setup?

That's gonna be hard to back-up, plus a road holding force is not the same as handling.
+1 on knowing the suspension details. I'd like to know what Saleen would do.

That's great info! I know my wife would be happier with an auto. So maybe I will buy a 330vert tiptronic and a VF/L10 kit.
Will wait to see how yours turns out.
Keep us posted.
What DD did you buy?
Kufan 05-11-2007, 03:32 PM Saleen doesnt have anything to do it, just thought i would throw that in their to show the guy that had it before me knew and loved cars. It wasnt just some old guy bmw owner. For got to say the bmw is shaved to, meaning it has no badges. My coilover kit is kw v2 i have brembo eight pot aluminium calipers, uuc swaybars and strut bars. I need new tires but i have nitto invo's on right now. Ill put some new ones on before the s/c kit is done in mid june. Anyone else like nitto. I always use nitto. I like the invos and the nt555. Well im hoping ill catch it before "she pops" lol. As soon as it starts to slip im sending to L10, that seems the best actoin to take.
Kufan 05-11-2007, 03:38 PM Not being cocky but thats ill i have going for me suspention, and looks. I know for a fact it handles better than a stock m3 i have 2 friends/acquaintance that i have been to the track with. They def will admit my shit handles, and then again will def admit im slow as shit lol.
weespeed 05-11-2007, 07:27 PM Good luck and hope it works out for you.
But your spelling is atrocious.
