Hello, I am new to this forum, its been great to have people respond to my questions. I recently bought an 2001 X5 4.4 with only 48K miles, the seller changed the air flow meter, however, the mechanics that worked on the car have to continously reset the check engine light. Following codes came up previously, P 1071 and P 1074.. codes were reset again, however, after driving it for a bit, Check engine light came on. Can only a BMW dealer accurately reset the car, or is there a bigger issue here? Also, I have noticed that there is viberation when you have your foot on the brake at a stop light, I have read other threads stating that this is a common problem on X5s... True? or is this related to a transmission problem? I hope I didn't buy a lemon...

wow that look like u have a serious problem with ur e53, with the lights u can go to a local shop that has a master reset tool, but for the brakes problem u might have to go to bmw dealer to get it checked out, where im from they diagnose this problem for $120/hr. good luck

If the light keeps coming back, there's a reason for it. I would get it checked out ASAP, because depending on what it is, putting it off could just make the problem worse and more expensive once you do fix it. Take it to a shop and have them diagnose it correctly, whether it's a dealership or a European specialty independent shop. Just make sure you choose wisely, you want someone who has experience working on BMWs.
Be prepared to shell out some money keeping your car maintained. The V8 X5s aren't bad cars, they're a blast to drive, and look beautiful, but they are NOT cheap to take care of.
