View Full Version : Short tow needed
PCP JR 05-01-2007, 08:28 PM Anyone know someone with a tow truck who wouldn't mind doing a short tow (as in less than 20').
I have a SUV parked right outside my carport and it needs to get in to the carport so I can swap motors.
There's a sidewalk ramp and slight rise to get in to the carport, so I can't personally push it. (Anyone know 6 big mokes?)
Found a neighbor with a towtruck in his front yard, but when my wife asked him if he'd drive the 3 blocks and do it, he said $60. Sheesh. I had a car towed from Diamond Head to near BME for $70.
wiggafly808 05-01-2007, 08:30 PM I would suggest get a few friends and a lot of momentum....
Save you some money.
Astroboy 05-01-2007, 08:44 PM What's a sidewalk ramp? You mean the curb between the road and the sidewalk? If it's not too impossible, I'm in to help push as long as we can work out a good time and it's doesn't end up just you and me. :cool

Where and when? If I'm free I can help.....:D
The Beastmaster 05-01-2007, 08:54 PM I'm in if you need help.
PCP JR 05-01-2007, 09:36 PM Community support rocks.
let me post a pic of the situation in the thread and y'all tell me if it is possible.
If we can do it, I'll prepare broke-da-mout brunch.
And if anyone wants to be on America's Funniest Videos Season 47, bring a video camera.
808Cardinal87 05-01-2007, 09:48 PM I can push also.
Too bad I don't have the van anymore. That's how I got my e30 into my garage before. Nothin beats a good ol bumper to bumper push :biglaughb
The Beastmaster 05-01-2007, 09:48 PM Can we use your D110 to push the RR?
KingRat 05-01-2007, 10:13 PM I am willing to help, just need a date/time to confirm with my work schedule and my boss (g/f).
kaliimc 05-01-2007, 11:23 PM Count me in if it's in the morning. Sounds like you have your "toe truck" already! :D
MauiM3Mania 05-02-2007, 03:26 AM Would if I could..... (be there)
bimbum 05-02-2007, 04:54 AM if you got a rubber tire(s) no rim I'll push it in with my truck no problem / no damage.
Iwantoneofthose 05-02-2007, 08:37 AM The RR isn't your average SUV (well, the Classic is probably lighter) so I don't know if 6 mokes is enough :D I'd be glad to help...can push with my truck as well.
PCP JR 05-02-2007, 07:17 PM if you got a rubber tire(s) no rim I'll push it in with my truck no problem / no damage.
I'm sure there's one in palolo stream wedged against a tree...
Forgot to take a pic this am, but will post one tomorrow.
With a bunch of y'alls help, We could probably do it. Neighbors would think I'm weirder than they've already seen.

I've got lots of unmounted tyres that can be used as spacers. Just let me know when and where we're doing this. :)
Iwantoneofthose 05-02-2007, 08:06 PM where'd you end up getting the motor from? Also, if there's anything you need let me know...will be changing jobs soon. ;)
gsn794 05-02-2007, 11:21 PM I'm certainly willing to come out if I'm free when you move the SUV. Just let us know when and where... :D

You mean there's other weirder things that you do already? :devillook :D
PCP JR 05-03-2007, 10:47 PM Yeah, we are 'the kids" on the block. There are 4 - 5 neighbors who are over 100; the neighbors are all very quiet traditional japanee folks.
Having the non-mobile RR and a D110 parked out front and lights on in the house after 9pm makes them think we're from outer space. :D
I found a longblock 4.0 + 4.6 crank & pistons in Sacramento out of a rolled DII. Got them shipped here on a pallet for $350ish which I found reasonable considering the weight.
I'll definitely come by your place for some parts. If you're leaving anyway, maybe you can hook me up with a jobber rate on the bits... They won't figure it out til you're in Brazil with the RR Sport... :)

Over 100??? Damn.
PCP JR 05-04-2007, 08:22 PM Ok guys. Let's give the push method a try and show the centenerian neighbors what us young 'uns can do. :D
Wanna shoot for Saturday afternoon? 4:00ish? I know that getting a group together is like herding cats so I just picked a time.
I'll have turkey franks and corn on the grill to motivate us, or if you're just hungry. (I'll also air up to 60psi so the thing rolls easier)
Location is back of Palolo Valley.
For those coming off H1, exit 6th Ave, head mauka. That street will become Palolo Ave. Keep going mauka til you see Carlos Long street, turn left headed up hill. Take the 3rd street on the left.
Coming off K'ole Hwy/East Oahu, take Waialae Exit, turn right at Tamura's/10th Ave. Head mauka to the very back of the valley, then right on Carlos Long. Go uphill, then 3rd left.
My cell is 258-7191.
kaliimc 05-04-2007, 08:43 PM Wish I could attend but I will already be at work by that time...:(
Iwantoneofthose 05-04-2007, 09:32 PM yup, same here. Got night shift for drill this weekend...
Astroboy 05-04-2007, 10:03 PM Damn, I'm also not available at that time. I have daughters' ballet performance that night.
I'm at Diamond Head Sunday morning until 9:30am then I'm free after that.
Let me know if you change the date and time.
:cool

kaliimc 05-05-2007, 02:14 AM Saturday afternoon? 4:00ish?
PCP JR Can you change the time? I would like to help and it seems other willing volunteers are also unable to help at that time, if you could change to Sat morning or sometime on Sunday thats better for me and possibly others?
I will be running around Diamond Head then car shopping Sunday morning but if can I'll help.
If anyone wants to run(jog) for a few miles (no more than 5-6 miles) Sunday let me know. We meet about 6:30am near Paki St. and Mansarrat Ave.
The Beastmaster 05-05-2007, 02:14 AM Sat 4ish? I can make it.
KingRat 05-05-2007, 02:50 AM Sorry, unable to make it on Saturday, prepping for a trip. Maybe Sunday in the afternoon?

PCP JR 05-05-2007, 02:08 PM Let's see what happens today at 4pm with whomever turns up. If we don't have enough brawns or brains, the group will definitely hear about what we couldn't achieve and I'll post for a re-try next weekend...
I know you guys all say you have to work later but I know you're all just going to Waikiki for the Don Ho deal.
Or to stand downwind of the Shell during the reggae fest... :stickoutt

And you won't see us on the 6pm news either.
Thanks to the guys who showed up; great to meet the new faces and good to see the ones whom I already knew.
Really appreciate all the help! :)
The Beastmaster 05-06-2007, 01:16 AM Pat - Remember when you asked about cost of an oil change? Look at this.

PCP JR 05-06-2007, 01:40 AM OMG.
That's legal robbery.
$46 a quart for Mobil 1, and that doesn't include the labor to open the top and pour it??
More reason to stick with the pre-89 911s. Way more DIY stuff can be done on them.
No wonder they only sell 5 more cars than Saab. Event the people who can afford them probably smell a ripoff at 20'.
Success! :redspot
