My windshield wipers when turned off come to rest in the center of my windshield rather than return to the bottom of the window. This problem developed over the winter and I am hopeful it is a easy fix and not one where the dealer will have to install a new electronic whatever. Is there possibly a reset button or some procedure that would correct the rest position that a owner could do?

You didn't turn them on when they were iced to the window did you? There may be a chance that the spline is stripped.

I probably did turn them on when they were iced to the windshield. They work and sweep from one side of the windshield to the other and work on intermittent wipe but do not park themselves at the bottom of the windshield when I turn them off. They consistently sstop when I turn them off halfway up the window. If the spine is stripped is that something I could repair or does it require the dealer to replace the entire mechanism? thanks jim

Your warranty should cover this. Why not take it to the dealer and have it fixed by them?

No, you don't understand. If the warranty was still in effect I wouldn't be having this problem. I have 60k on the car. It goes to the shop tomorrow because it is not idling smoothly and my EML message appeared telling me to service engine soon. I will have them take a look at the wipers while there but I have a feeling it is going to be expensive. I owned other BMW's in the past 3 series and I never had the problems that I have had with this vehicle. Replaced steering rack, some spring mechanism in the steering wheel, idle control valve replaced. Maybe it is time to trade. My x3 is a 2004 and it is also a 2.5 engine. I placed the order and while I was waiting for it to be delivered to dealer--BMW offered the 3.0 engine for no extra charge. I called the salesman but he said tooooooo late vehicle built and in transit. I should have jumped up and down but didn't and the vehicle is underpowered and the trans is shifting all the time when going up a hill. Oh well-- I feel better since I had a opportunity to vent. thanks jim
