Okay, so I've got the dealer down to the price I want for a new 2007 335i sedan. It will be ordered in this week, delivered in June. In short, it will be an automatic, premier and sport package, but no other options/frills.

Sorry if this in not the right forum for this, but I'm posting it here because it is specific to the 335i.

I'll be signing a buyer's order tonight after work and the order will go in. I'm sure at some point the sales person will ask me if I want an extended warranty, which I'm guessing will extend the 4yr/50K standard warranty.

Question: should I take it? This will be my first experience with BMW. If I just listen to the marketing department, I would guess the extended warrany would not be needed, however, that's why I'm asking folks here if the vehicles are truely reliable enough and, on the average, do not need the extended warranty. Besides piece of mind, what else will it buy me? I'm not looking for WHAT it will cover - I can read that myself - I'm looking to see if anyone else thinks its a VALUE (i.e. are these types of warranties used a lot on BMWs) or not. I realize the 335 is too new to know how they will hold up in the next few years, but I tend to keep my cars for 5+ years, so I'm looking for general reliability comments from owners of the brand.

Also, what would be a good price for an extended warranty straight from the dealer at purchase time?

Thanks so much. I'm going in tonight, so I hope there is some folks reading this today!

it just depends on how much you drive the car. I drive 30k a year so, yeah i needed to get the extended warranty. I don't know a whole a lot about BMWs, but i know they are very expensive to repair out-of-warranty.

I bought the extended warranty for my 335i in December, I'd probably sell it in 09 probably right before the warranty ends

If you drive a lot, get it. If not, then don't.

Good luck!

I bought my 335i on March 22, it broke down completely on March 23, and it is still in the shop today. If you are going to keep the car for more than 4 years or 50k miles, then yes, GET IT! Also, if it covers rental reimbursement, etc, GET IT. Here's why: my car broke down 700 miles away. BMW towed it to a dealer for repair, but I had to pay for travel, lodging, and rental car. Now, BMW MAY pay for trip interupption items, but only up to $750.00. If your car is in the shop across the country for over one month, like mine, travel and rental will be more than they will cover.
