View Full Version : Bham E36 M3 guys
m3fan11 04-24-2007, 02:58 AM I recently moved into a new house in birmingham, AL. Just right down the road...to a new neighborhood. The Preserve
I was driving down my road the other day and saw 3 very beautiful E36 M3s about 5 houses down from mine. Just wondering if the owner of the house these cars were at, is on here. I believe the Garage of the house stores a very clean Black M3 in it....cant remember though.
mcbk1452 04-24-2007, 10:46 AM Yeah, let me know who this cat is..I'd like to shake his hand for owning three E36 M3...geez.
Seriously, I'm going back to get my GED...:D
m3fan11 04-24-2007, 09:18 PM No no no.....he owns one i believe. HE had 2 or 3 friends over with their cars.
madsedan 04-24-2007, 09:52 PM Was the house in the preserve's, the black M3 was mine, the Avus M3 was Hank's and the white was Hank's dad Art. I was over there Friday after work having a stiff drink.

Fusion325i 04-25-2007, 07:03 PM So is chase doing your install
madsedan 04-25-2007, 10:12 PM Nope, thats Hank's house, he has a super clean 95 Avus/black M3, he always wins the clean car shows when we used to do them with the BMWCCA.
m3fan11 04-26-2007, 12:23 AM NO no. chase is doing the wiring. all the install is me.
miklm 04-26-2007, 06:42 AM I met Hank and Art on Tuesday. Great guys, had a fun ride to Knoxville and back with them. They're both doing the HPDE at Barber in May.
m3fan11 04-26-2007, 02:21 PM Hmmm. Who is hosting this HPDE?? WHen is it? any acuras allowed? id love to get out there if possible.
mcbk1452 04-26-2007, 02:47 PM Hmmm. Who is hosting this HPDE?? WHen is it? any acuras allowed? id love to get out there if possible.
HPDE sponsored by BMWCCA (dixie chapter) but I believe anyone with any car is allowed to participate as long as they past tech inspection. Please contact Carol Lowery: http://albmwcca.org/contact.php for more info just in case I'm wrong.
Last year, I recalled seeing some Vettes out there..
m3fan11 04-28-2007, 01:20 PM I am gona try my hardest to make the HPDE.....
hopefully ill see yall there!
madsedan 04-28-2007, 10:51 PM If I'm not driving I'll be working there, be sure to hook up with us regardless, we are a fun bunch.
m3fan11 04-30-2007, 01:27 AM Sweet i ll try ot come out no matter what.
Car may be done. May not. Ill be headed to import faceoff the weekend before the HPDE so hopefully i can make it.
miklm 04-30-2007, 05:19 PM I'm really getting worried that my car isn't going to be ready for the HPDE.
I just finished up water pump/thermostat and all the accessories/hoses that go along with that, coolant flush, brake fluid flush, and bought all the parts to do new tie rods & control arms.
Now I'm temporarily out of project money, and still need LCABS and a new sway bar and most importantly, track tires, plus an alignment and trans/diff fluid flush. While I'm at it, I could also use new rear shocks and RSMs and probably new springs all around (these Bavarian Autosport springs are too soft; I really need some good coil-overs OH GOD MAKE IT STOP...
This is turning into the most expensive HPDE ever...
This is why I'm not rushing trying to get mine ready for it. :) I still have to get new LCABs, put on a new PS rack->resv return line, flush the coolant, swap out the front tires, and get a pair of harnesses.
mcbk1452 05-01-2007, 10:52 AM Miklm and Woky - sorry to hear about that. I've been slowly upgrading mine since 2002. It's tough to really do everything all at once. I had to tell myself to do a "major" upgrade every year. Now that I'm more broke after my condo purchase, I'm done spending any more upgrades goodies on the m3...just maintanence stuff. Then, I'll have to focus my attention on the the 325i...like fixing the stupid sunroof shade...yada y ada..
I may be selling my m3 next year since I will probably won't have much time to enjoy it due to school.
Anywas, I digress and I hope you guys come out to watch and maybe hang out afterwards. Last year I was only there that Friday afternoon to fart around since I loaned Jack my car and I had to fly out to Kentucky for my memorial day vacation, we all went to Hooters after they finish up with the race.
:buttrock

Well, I'm still planning on making it. I'm not to the point of canceling my registration by any means.
Really most of this stuff is just preventative maintenance anyway. My cooling system wasn't showing any signs of trouble, but better safe than sorry. Same with the front suspension. Biggest thing I need now are new tires, thinking probably Azenis RT-615 to use for autocross and track on my extra wheels. A sway bar would be a good upgrade, but I'm probably going to wait and find a used one instead of buying new right now due to budget...
Need to have trans/diff fluid flushed and switch to Red Line or Royal Purple but not sure if I'm going to have time to address that before the DE. Once I get that done, my to-do list is pretty small (RSMs?) and I'm hoping to get in several more autox and track days before having to do another major round of services.

Ok that's cool....I'm debating on sticking with really good street tires (Goodyear GS-D3 with 60% tread left) or track tires ($$$). I too am restricted on budget, already for this year, I've overexceeded my original budget on the M3. :(
They just installed a roll bar and I'm leery on what the bill on that is....:(
I just shelled out some pennies at Home Depot this past Sunday on hardwood flooring...
Hmm...car wash charity for parts for BMW? I don't look good in a bikini but I can persuade my voluptuous roommate to show off her goodies for a "good" cause. :buttrock
The only thing that I "need" :D before DE is SAMCO elbow for the throttle body and maybe R compound tires.
Keep us update and let me know if you're going to the 13th Auto-X..you mention something about being in town that weekend for some wedding.

I won't make the autox on Sunday but I will probably be at the Munich tech day on Saturday the 12th, whether or not I bring the car down for tech at that time I'll probably come by and hang out anyway with the CCA crew.
After reading a lot of posts here, I'm really thinking of going with Hankook RS2 Z212 tires now -- seems some people are saying they'll hold heat better on the track than Azenis and last a bit longer, with almost as good grip cold and cheaper ($101 each from EdgeRacing)
Just found out our (small) bonus will be on the paycheck this week so I may go ahead and shell out for those... :)
madsedan 05-02-2007, 09:34 AM Maybe we could have a DE prep party to change fluids, plugs, brakes, etc.

When and where? I'll come to hang out and watch.
madsedan 05-02-2007, 09:56 AM Actually I am getting a pair of seats with brackets and sliders today and I am going to start trial fitting them maybe tonight. If a couple of guys need to do minor stuff before the DE I have no problem hosting something at my garage and having people over but my schedule isn't as flexible as you young whippersnappers with your MTV arcade games...

:lol He called me young whippersnappers...that's the best compliment all day...usually the other youguns (David) from Vestavia HS are making fun of the old folks (like us) on music and studying...
This weekend is a mixture of condo renovation (flooring) with cinco de mayo celebration, crawfish boil concerts and soccer game.
May 12th - Pretty much free all Sat day (Tech inspection day at Munichsport) and possibly HOoters in Pelham?
May 13th wknd is AutoX all Sunday.
May 19th - Throwing a big pool party (keg, liqour, young scantily clad college women, yada yad) - details and directions for those who are interested
May 20th - recooperate and prepare for summer classes
Probably the best TIME is before or next weekend to get things done since everyone's car should be ready for Tech inspection that Sat (for those that are driving).

They're doing dyno this Sat too - 3 runs for like $45. My friend, Ken is going to see what his stock 2007 Civic SI will do...
madsedan 05-03-2007, 09:25 AM They have a dynojet or is those little dynapacks that bolt on to the hub?
Fusion325i 05-03-2007, 10:08 PM We have a Dynojet drive on dyno.
m3fan11 05-16-2007, 05:38 AM Nice meeting a few of you tonight!
Gave me some inspiration to work on my car.
WEnt and made a custom harness (kinda) finished the cam install and also put in a clutch.
The motor being out sure does make a difference
sidetracked3 05-18-2007, 09:01 PM Theres also a older guy in the Preserve that just bought a 04 red m3 too. And hopefully there will be a 01 AA s/c m3 over there soon. We plan on moving there as soon as our current house sells.
