As the title states, It is something i have always wanted to do but wanted to do it when i could afford something he had at one point. I recently found out my dad is fighting a illness that in all likelihood he will be fine but.. i want to
do this sooner rather than later.
After talking to him today about "the good old days" when he had his toys, he was telling me how he was caught up in the muscle cars of the day( he had a 66 fastback mustang, 427 68 vette, 396
67 camaro, among many others) and finally decided he wanted something he could afford with a bit of power and that handled good. He bought a TR6 and kept a new cutlass as his daily driver.
I asked him why he never considered a BMW back then and he told me that they were rare cars back then and in his eyes only the rich could afford them.
His perspective changed after meeting someone who had a 3 series (e21) and he realised that he could have had the bimmer and had the best of both worlds.
Now what i want to find is either a 2002 or a e21 in decent drivable shape. It would be nice to find it and give the car to him at Bavarian auto sport this October.
All i ask is if you guys have any lines on a car to pm me. Me and my mother do not have a ton of coin for this which is why i say decent, hopefully i can find one and fix it up to give to him
thanks guys - Chris

Even though the transportation costs are high, you can get a nice '76 2002 in California for a great price. Many enthusiasts have done that, so you might want to check the 2002 board here or the 2002faq for leads. Ever since Cali stopped the 30 year smog exemption with '75 model year cars, owners of newer models have had to sell them, since they can not legally use them unless they pass smog AND have all the equipment in place..

The same would apply to E21's.

Good luck with your search, and hope your Dad gets better!

Hope your dad is ok...

Check around for one that has been stored as a project never finished like on craiglist. There is one being given away on the e21 digest, but its pretty far away. Check the bottom of this post for details on this car.

As you know the problem with cars around here is salt and rust of new england beat the crap out of our cars. Any old car around here has lots of rust...

My dad used to love driving my 323i back in the day, but now he has a M z4 roadster and its time for me to borrow the keys from him...lol.

And Chris, we should all go together to the october show as my 323i will be there.:alright

Never hit, a little rust, interior good but for mold ( in Miami with a
cover on the car) relatively low mileage but the motor Has been a
problem. I had thought to save her to put a twin cam 318i or ? (
recomendations?, a little v-8?), 3 speed auto. I'm loosing my storage
and code enforcement has my balls in a sling. I have enough projects (
and more) but I have thought the e21 would be a classic. Any comments?
Anyone want it tomorrow?

thanks Joe. I have no reason to worry about my father pulling through. he is so healthy now and the doctors give him a 75% chance of beating this completely or just having to be treated the rest of his life.
I really just wanted to do this as soon as possible partly because of the news and partly because he keeps telling me about how much he misses having a toy and wishes he had the money for one.
I think he would be happier with a e21, he told me today he didn't like the look of them when they were new and he thinks the e21 is a better looking car.

Oh and the bav auto thing, I just think it would be cool to give it to him there in front of so many bfc/cca members
