That link is 4 years old...

There are currently 4 recalls and 1 service action dealing with X5 brakes. None of them address defective front brake lines. The newest one, the service action, is dated August 2005 (and is predated by this thread).
SUBJECT
Service Action: Left Front Brake Line Support Bracket Repair

MODEL
E53 (X5)

SITUATION
The left front brake line support bracket may not have been properly secured to the body during the assembly process.

AFFECTED VEHICLES
This Service Action involves X5 Sports Activity Vehicles produced between July 8, 2005 and July 19, 2005.

In order to determine if a specific vehicle is affected by this Service Action, it will be necessary to utilize the "Service Menu" of the DCS (Dealer Communication System). Based on the response of the system, either proceed with the corrective action or take no further action.

The only other Recall on front brakes is from 2003 (probably the subject of this thread):
SUBJECT
Recall Campaign 03V-001: Front Brake Hose Retaining Clip

MODEL
E53 X5

SITUATION
The potential defect involves the attachment of the front brake line to the retaining bracket at the front strut. In very rare occasions, for example, during aggressive cornering, it is possible that the grommet that is holding the brake line may slip out of the bracket. Consequently, the brake hose that is attached to the brake line may come in contact with the tire and be subjected to wear and abrasion.

This could initially cause some brake fluid leakage, and eventually lead to a substantial loss of brake fluid.

AFFECTED VEHICLES
This Recall Campaign involves E53 vehicles which were produced from 1 August 1999 through 12 April 2002.

Any X5 which has been properly maintained at a dealership should have had these issues addressed years ago.
