Who: All you guys (or gals)

What: There is a road rally with some very historic and expensive machinery taking place. Last year included a '65 Shelby GT350R, a '66 427 Cobra (the real deal!), '30something Bugatti Type 35, a 2002 Turbo, Ferrari 250 GTO, an '87 M6, and a plethora of Alfa Romeos and Porsches. The rally is sponsored by the PCA and AROC (Alfa club of WI and IL). There is a plan for a bimmer cruise in the country roads around New Glarus afterwards. There are over 6 hours of awesome roads around New Glarus. I don't plan on a 6 hour drive, just letting you know there are plenty of great roads! :buttrock

Unfortunately we cannot participate, as this event is by invitation only. But, if you feel the need, you can stand right next to the '66 Cobra 427 as it launches off the starting grid for its run. This is probably the one event this year where you can see all this nice machinery up close. Bring your digital cameras. We will probably go out to eat somewhere afterwards. The group can decide... majority rules.

Where: New Glarus, WI

When: Saturday, May 5th... We will be meeting in the Cub Foods parking lot on Verona Rd approximately 7:30 a.m. Once everyone shows up or 7:50 rolls around, we'll split down to New Glarus. The event runs from about 8:30 to about noon. Most cars get about 2-3 runs in.

Why: Because... you should. I'm going with or without you guys. And because it's better than sitting in front of the computer in your skivvies. You know you do. :alright

On the night before, I can drive down to New Glarus, and take pictures of all the machinery so you guys can see what's up. Let me know by PM, or call me if you'd like 608-827-5870.

Here is the map of the course, and the general layout of the thing... Spectating is all around the starting grid.

edit: I would like to remind everyone that the roads we will be driving after the event are public roads, and many go past peoples driveways. I am personally going to be enjoying the corners for all they're worth, but I'm also going to be respecting the fact that people live on these roads. There is also a good potential for bikers and joggers.

I was curious about how long of a drive you guys would want after the event? I can make a 1/2/3 hour route if you guys want. Once I get an idea of how long you guys want to drive, I'll make a route. It is entirely possible to make a 3 hour drive and not use the same road twice and never get 20 miles outside New Glarus. :D I am imagining that the route will go through Stewart Park and the Mount Horeb area in the end.

Where do you guys want to eat after the event? My vote goes for Red Robin... oh yeah (Sarah) (<- my fiance :D)

I have not made any plans per se. I can send out an email tonight and see what response I get. Usually we meet up over at Goerkes (Park N Ride, Bluemound and Barker Road) 94W is right there.

IDK how convenient that is for everyone else though.

Guys I would totally go but I have to work that day unfortunately, so I won't be able to make it.

I gotta say though it was cool to have slowman stop by my work and say hey. I do apologize though for not being more friendly but I did get caught a little off guard haha.

05-01-2007, 07:20 AM
I thought you were pretty friendly; although I can imagine I'm not the friendliest person at work... :stickoutt
You were probably wondering, "Who is that douchebag that is just standing there and not looking at any batteries?" :D

Heh, the milwaukee people will be getting up early if they want to see the whole event. If you want to meet with the Madison people in the Cub Foods parking lot at 8 a.m., the address for that is...

Cub Foods
4716 Verona Road
Madison , WI, 52711

Mapquest!

And I guess the closest address for the event itself would be...

Roy's Market
600 Hwy 69
New Glarus, WI, 53574

I intend on parking in this grocery store parking lot, which is the closest parking lot to the event. In my past experience, this lot fills up around 9, hence the emphasis on getting there early.

Anybody can give me a call at 608-827-5870.

Well backroads involve you driving up to West Bend first, then to Madison. Plus it's just 2 straight roads, not very exciting. Should we meet at Goerkes at like 6:30? :eyecrazy

I might be able to meet up with you guys for a while in the AM. I need to be in Baraboo at 11am to register for a TSD Rally, so I'll have some time in the AM to meet up and maybe just leave directly from New Glarus.

I was going to enter the m3 in the pre-Rally car show, but that sounds pretty boring compared with meeting up with everyone.

BTW - I'm meeting up with the new Madison Liaison for Badger Bimmers (Milwaukee chapter of BMW CCA) to discuss putting together some events for Madison members. If you have any suggestions or anything you'd like me to discuss please PM me TODAY. I'm meeting with him at 5:30pm. I'm going to try to co-liaison with him, if that's possible. We need to get some younger blood in the CCA!! :redspot

Slowman,
Is this an event where a DSLR camera might be useful? I can bring mine, but I will bring the sleek pocket camera if there isn't too much to shoot.

slowman
05-03-2007, 07:48 PM
Heh, there will be plenty to shoot. Thankfully, this is an event where you can stand two feet away from the cars as they launch if that tickles your fancy. Basically what happens is the car starts off, goes about 100 feet, squeals around an uphill corner, and blasts off up a hill. People are allowed to photograph any area at any time during this sequence of events.

I don't have a DSLR camera, but I'm definately briging my little Sony Cybershot. :D

IDK about CCA events - Looking at the Badger Bimmer page, there seem to be quite a few events, coupled with the weekly shows and cruises, etc that will start soon - the calendar is getting packed fast.

New info!!!

If you plan on going tomorrow, we will meet at Cub Foods later, at around 8:30. I went down to the hotel where the people are staying, and got a calendar of events. Orientation runs are starting at 9:30, and timed runs are starting at 10. This is different from past years, but I'm glad I went to find a calendar of events...

I will still be at Cub Foods at 7:30 in case people don't get this message... but if you're reading this, it doesn't apply to you. :)

We will pick up some doughnuts for all you guys in the morning too. :)

Here is a teaser of some of the cars for tomorrow... The Maserati Bora is one I want to see in action! Sorry about the dark/blurry pictures, my camera sucks at night.
