Hey everyone,
Because of my fuel delivery issues I am looking at getting a fuel pressure gauge. My question is if anyone mounted one in the dash and where they tap into the system to get the pressure reading. Jbob, are one of your various gauges a fuel pressure gauge? I would like to have it in car so I can see if the pressure fluctuates (and how much) when the car is under load or while turning (where it usually stalls).
Thanks,
AJ
PS My in-tank pump arrived from bmrparts today...I retract most of what I said about them not telling me they couldn't get the part out of the car until 2 weeks after I placed the order...the part shipped from Cali in 3 days.
You're still running K-jet right? IMO, you should just get the test kit so you can diagnose & pinpoint any fuel-related problems.
btw, are you positive that it's a fuel problem? Power-loss & misfiring under load could also be a weak ignition. I had a similar problem with the car hesitating under load & it turned out to be a bad coil.
If you really want that fuel guage, definately pickup a kit that utilizes an electric sending unit (you don't want to bring in any high-pressure fuel lines into the cabin). I'm not exactly sure where the best spot would be to tap for the sensor on K-jet systems since it uses a lot of hardlines & banjo bolts (maybe @ the rear, near the main fuel pump?)...on my EFI setup, I taped directly into the fuel rail.

The fuel pressure gage has to be mounted between the top port of the fuel distributor and the inlet of the WUR. I made my own gage using a standard fuel pressure gage from autozone, a brass tee fitting and ball valve from the hardware store and some 1/8" fuel line clamped over the stock hard plastic line that I cut in half. It cost me about $40 to make and it's permanently installed on the vehicle. It's been set up that way for a couple years with no leaks.
You can also buy a pressure test kit for about $60 from jcwhitney.com.
I don't know of any electronic fuel pressure kits, but I bet a standard oil pressure kit would work, it reads up to 150 psi. I just ordered a full kit from bavauto.com for around $110, but that included the adaptor to mount the sender to the stock oil pressure switch location. From pics I'm guessing the sender is a 1/8 npt fitting so all you would need to do is thread that sender into your 1/8" npt T fitting, attach it to the hoses, and run the signal to your gage and you'd be measuring control pressure real time. I may try this with my gage, once the gage is installed I could just buy another sender and install a flip switch to go between inputs... hmmm, i like this idea..

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I will consider doing the electrical signal unit, though the mechanical way sounds simpler... I probably should check my coil as well, that was the only thing I didn't replace when I tuned up the ignition system...why I didn't replace it, I have no idea.
