So a while ago (never did) I was gonna post that I think it is pretty cool how BMW's tend to give each other a "whats up nod" when we see one another. I find it happening especially among the E36 M crowd. I would say 80% of ///M I see I actually acknowledge them and vice versa. Never once received a negative reaction...................Until yesterday....I was in a parking lot waiting to turn into a spot when another ///M was approaching, I saw him and was looking at his car when he got close enough I tossed him the peace sign and a nod. It was returned with a laugh and the comment "i'll smoke you." I thought it was pretty lame and just wanted to share. Any other similar situation?

E36 or E46? I flashed my highs at a guy in a E46 in LO and received the middle finger back. I hate Lake Oswego.

Hmmm.... weird. Today I saw a 325is E30 with some dark ass tint. He was sporting the "///M3" badge in the rear and had some side stickers that read "///M Power." Sweet.... Not.

once i was riding with stang 65 and we pulled up next to a clean but stock 95 M3 both of us had the windows down stang said nice car and the guy looked at stangs car and said nice try, but you cant keep up with the real thing. Then he spead off, later that day we met him getting onto I5 and so we went at it with him a little and beat him every time so we smiled and said nice try with a nice car. He smerked and flipped us the bird and drove off. i hate when the snobby guys get ahold of good cars, they take all the fun out of owning good cars.

There is a guy that lives up the hill from me that tracks his Dinan Dakar Yellow E36 M3 his license plate says "M CUBED" When I had my 328i, I pulled up next to him on the freeway early in the morning, I paced him to give him a friendly "nice car" wave. The guy wouldn't even look at me.

After I got my ///M3 two weeks ago, I saw him on the main road near our houses, I pulled up next to him thinking...."maybe he will say hi now that I have an M3. Once again ignored. He's an older guy, obviously drives a very nice car.

Its too bad that his ego and personality don't follow the same suit. If you have something that special, you should acknowledge others that are attempting to admire your cash and prizes.........

Wow what a douchebag... :lol

So far all E36 M3 owners have given me props, or just positive acknowledgement when we come across each other. Most E46 M3 drivers won't even notice that my car's a BMW lol. There was only one E46 guy on I-5 one night that was speedmatching with me for fun. I think he was enjoying the meeting of M3 generations as much as I was. :)

thats the case with me, most of the time i figured out that most of the people that dont acknowledge me in the E46 M3s are snobs that bought the car because they heard that it is fastand the new fad. They probably will not brake 85mph or .5g s around a corner which is sad for the M3. but these are the same people who down the road will sell the car because the new fad is a sabb or something. which means one of us BMW enthuisiests will end up with another M3 that is well broken in and ready to be driven!!!:D

I had a situation like that as well. An E46 ///M with just his angel eyes on (like me) was right next to me on HWY 217 both of us cruising at exactly 65mph. I thought that was a lot of fun, and he seemed to agree. He was probably in his late 40's.

I always get some play and a thumbs up on the highway on the way to work and home.

I had one dude in a 5.9 liter jeep being a complete prick to me for no reason, making gestures as if i was compensating and talking shit. My onramp to 405 came and I threw my water bottle at his wind shield as I was exiting 167.

Yeah, it's not really relevant to this conversation, but the look in his eyes was priceless.

My old co-worker has since gotten me stuck on keeping glass bottles in my car for similar situations.

i used to drive a 325 so im hecka used to acknowledging the bimmers out there... or maybe its just cuz i love you guys?

i normally dont receive too many waves back unless the driver is really young for some reason.
but i always see them breakin there neck also :P

One of the most rediculously, wave-happy bunch of people are PT Cruiser owners. Now, I gotta say that I can't stand the PT... I never have. It's just a bolt-on accessory to massive RVs. (there's another group that live to wave)

Personally, coming from a biker background... the waving thing gets old after a while. I'm actually glad that I don't feel the need to wave to every BMW that I see. Every once in a while, I'll give a nod, or lift my hand off the wheel, but for the most part, we just go about our business, and I'm cool with that.

What I can NOT stand are the asshats that acknowledge a friendly gesture with a smartass remark or the finger. That's just stupid. It just goes to show that not all BMW owners want to be included in the BMW community. (until something goes wrong and they need the help of the enthusiests)

Early mustang owners tend to wave everytime, it is that way with most classic cars. Classic car owners wave at eachother the most by far. When I had my 66 stang if you forgot to wave you were an idiot.

It's definitely a mixed bag on the returning of acknowledgements, but you have to feel good about yourself for trying. Don't give up trying to be friendly and nice!!! Even if it's just a nod or a smile.

I won't give up. Just yesterday in front of albertsons I was coming to a speed bump at the same time another E36 was. As we both slowed down to go over we looked at each other and exchanged nods.:D

Because of that comment, I noticed that I actually don't usually wave at e30's. Not because I think I am better, but usually I have never gotten a response. So today, downtown portland I waived to a NICE e30 and he looked at me as if I was dumb haha.....oh well.

i hardly ever get a nod from anyone...anything newer than an e30 and they don't even glance at the car, e30s tend to nod, or flash brights, or something, if they're young, but most people are old around here that drive em, and use them as just cars.

a guy in a work truck waved at me today. i moved into the next lane, and he stayed next to me, probably wanted to pretend we were holding hands with our cars, after a little bit of hand holding, i decided it was enough, and downshifted and passed him. then i turned left a ways down the road. he stopped next to me at the light and i waved at him, he waved back, and started trying to yell something, i think he was saying "hello, we should be friends! and he was flailing his arms, and jumping up and down with excitement, then we went our seperate ways.

translation: he was going under the speed limit, i tried to pass, he tried to not let me, so i down shifted and he couldn't do anything about it, stopped at the light, i flipped him off cause he's a dickhead(he sped up to 60 in a 40 to keep me from getting in front of him) he started going mental, flailing his arms, and screaming at me. then the light turned and i got out of there. then i loled

That's Rick, the ex-prez of the local BMWCCA chapter. Older guy..he's actually a nice guy, good driver too. Most of the track guys that I socialized with at the track are pretty cool and laid back. We let it all hang out at the track so when some young guns try to pace us on the road, we just let it go. Some of the people that buy BMW because of the status symbol won't acknowledge another BMW driver but enthusiasts will acknowlege another.

If you see a dakar M3/4, just wave..I might not see you bc of the dark tint:D

i always acknowledge ///M drivers and other bimmers, especially if they look modified - that way i know it's an enthusiast driving. more often than not, i get a response from other e36 m3 drivers... but not so much from E46s or others

one time i saw an m coupe with a yellow BMWCCA number on the side windows (denotes BMWCCA instructor)... at that time i had my white BMWCCA number on my windows from a recent track day (denotes student)... the m coupe was being driven by an older lady... i was trying to get some acknowledgement, but got nothing, she didn't even look at my car. must have been the wife of the instructor or something.
