View Full Version : What's the best cell phone service -- I need 4-5 phones
Not sure which way to go. Our contract with verizon just ran out, and we are probably going to change services.
What's the cheapest/best service plans out there? I'm kinda busy painting my car (http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=729049).
As I said, I need 4-5 phones. Will sign a year contract or so, if its free phones or something worth while.
Appreciate it
P.S.
Anyone thinking about rollering their car, come check mine out. After a few coats and sanding/buffing, it's AMAZING (for what it is). It's something you need to see in person to believe. Please don't change the topic to my car though, post on that thread if it's related to it.
MeFryRice 04-16-2007, 10:04 PM I work at Wireless Toyz and although we don't carry them, I'd recommend Verizon or their sister company, Amp'd Mobile. Yes they have those stupid commercials but for the price of the plans and coverage of Verizon....well you just can't really beat it. That's who I personally have. The nice thing is their unlimited plan for $99, no other carrier offers that with such great coverage. With it being CDMA, it doesn't give you the ability to switch phones as easy like Cingular, T-Mobile and Nextel. That's the only thing I don't particurally care for but you can't have your cake and eat it too I guess.
In June, I'm switching to Cingular for the iPhone. I'm just wanting to see what kind of data plans they are going to offer as I don't think they will be using the same media package as let's say the BlackJack, etc.....only time will tell.
atl530i 04-16-2007, 10:08 PM Screw Sprint, enough said...
BMVV4Life 04-16-2007, 10:11 PM i've been pretty happy with cingular and i second atl530's comment
M3Alpine99 04-16-2007, 10:15 PM i love my nextel. Had it since 16 and now 23
atl530i 04-16-2007, 10:18 PM I wish Airtouch was still around, lol. I never had a problem with them until Verizon took over.
Doctor Wha 04-17-2007, 05:27 AM I've had BellSouth (now Cingular), PacTel (now T-Mobile), and a client of mine has (and hates) Nextel. The one and only company who has delivered a solid signal, and the hands-down fewest dropped calls (maybe 6 or so in the last four years) has been Verizon. They are a bit more pricey, but like BMWs, you get what you pay for.
So Verizon FTW for us. :buttrock

LoveLEE143 04-17-2007, 06:16 AM I have sprint and Have no problems at all. I hate Cingular they stuck me with a $700 bill. Plus I get 25% off my bill at Sprint.
Cwaters 04-17-2007, 06:18 AM I've had Cellular One (!) and Verizon. With the exception of some shady dealings with a Verizon re-seller, I'm happy with the coverage and value.
Everyone I know who had Nextel and doesn't HAVE to keep it for work has ditched them, some at great out of pocket cost. My guess is they spent the money on racing instead of their network. Can't really fault them for that, though:evil2 :devillook
FASN8N 04-17-2007, 09:01 AM I can't get any coverage in my house with Sprint!
tpattison 04-17-2007, 09:49 AM I've been with Sprint for almost 10 yrs. I've never had a problem with them. Inside the city they can't be beat, now out in Bum F*ck Egypt (for those who wondered yesterday what BFE was) is a different story. Fortunately I don't go out to BFE much. Plus I have SAT Phones for field work! :D
bcart1991 04-17-2007, 09:55 AM Sprint works fine for me out here in my neck of BFE...:dunno
I've been with them for going on 6 years now, no real complaints.
Doctor Wha 04-17-2007, 09:59 AM Sprint works fine for me out here in my relatively flat, largely featureless neck of BFE...
;)
Up in the mountains & high hills, naught but Verizon is worth a rat's patoot. :az
I suppose another part of the evaluation should be to consider where you are most likely to need/use the phones. :ponder
:cool
Verizon is FTW for me.
But their data plan is nuts. Way too expensive. I would get sprint if I wasnt canceling the data soon.
zeit00 04-17-2007, 10:44 AM I have had experience with many different carriers and phones. I found that the phone/person/loction has more to do with signal than the carrier itself. One person at work had to be switched to Cingular because his phone (same as everyone else in the office) would never get a signal. My friend swears by sprint. But sprint had the most dropped calls and bad signal for me. And cingular was terrible for him. Honestley you have to keep trying different carriers and phones to find the one that works best for you.
No red pen, I am on allergy medicine. :nono
BruceH 04-17-2007, 11:50 AM Your BMW CCA membership gets you an additional 15% discount from Sprint.
LoveLEE143 04-17-2007, 12:03 PM Or maybe if you know me I can get you 25% off Sprint. But only if you know me. Or have something I need.
Boozie D. Clown 04-17-2007, 12:08 PM I <3 Huckabees...and T-Mobile.
I have cingular and personally have had a good experience so far with them. Everyone seems to have different experiences with every carrier...

+1
kerph32 04-17-2007, 01:15 PM I was with Cingular for 10+ years (since they were bellsouth) and switched to Verizon in November to get the Treo 700p... what a mistake. The phone is OK, but not worth $300, plus Verizon data is not that fast and the email system is a joke. Emails are only pushed through every 15 minutes in or out, which makes having an email conversation with someone impossible.
If I'd have stayed with Cingular, I could have the Blackberry 8800 now and be completely happy

must be hit or miss because my best friend in chicago hates them, worst customer service, phones are junk and you get their repair contract with your monthly fee and they don't fix anything, has horrible coverage and on top of that it takes 2 days to send or receive text messages.
Everytime he goes in to complain supposedly there is some software update or some other excuse that they update and it doesn't fix anything

I still have it. Have had it since I was 16 and anytime I have had an issue it is quickly resolved by customer service. Their phones actually last too unlike other carriers.
They have with Sprint the fastest Data available. That is why their walkie talkie is instant and the only reason why Sprint bought them was for Nextel's Data speed.
Your BMW CCA membership gets you an additional 15% discount from Sprint.
Really?
Or maybe if you know me I can get you 25% off Sprint. But only if you know me. Or have something I need.
More details! hehehehehe Always good to save money and sprint together with nextel may be Sprint and what used to be nextel :)
Nfilsoof1 04-17-2007, 01:42 PM I have had sprint which blows donkey balls...and not for the last 7 years I have had At&t which is Cingular mobile. The coverage in my opinion is the best and the phones are really great.
I would wait till may/june for the IPHONE or get a blackberry pearl/8800 series.
M3Alpine99 04-17-2007, 01:53 PM iPhone is uber uber uber uber lame

See that's just the thing it's your opinion. You know what they say about opinions right? Opinions are like a$$holes, everyone has one and yours stinks, I mean they all stink. :D
Tricked 323i 04-17-2007, 02:48 PM I have cingular and personally have had a good experience so far with them. Everyone seems to have different experiences with every carrier...
I had At&t then it switched to Cingular/At&t no worries here. I agree with your comment about different experiences but some of it also has to do with the quality of phone you buy.

Nice job with the avatar, btw.
andrew325ci 04-17-2007, 07:32 PM Cingular or Verizon - Tmobile is a POS IMO
kendogg 04-17-2007, 08:35 PM I had sprint - they sucked azz. Then I got cingular - was perfectly happy. Then got nextel - sucked azz. Back to cingular. Quite happy. As long as Cingular has a phone I like, I'll probably stick with them when my contract ends. However, a customer of mine can get me some near unlimited plan thru nextel for like $30 a month, and a badazz like ic502 something or other nextel military rated phone, and I played with it, I do like it. We'll see here in the end of July what I actually end up buying, if my current phone lasts that long.
atl530i 04-17-2007, 08:59 PM I've been with Sprint for 6.5 years now. Their phones are nice, coverage is nice, but their tech support and customer service sucks. It took almost 3 months to get a replacement phone because mine kept dropping calls. I even went to the Sprint store, twice to get it replaced.
Not only that, I was turned off a few times over $5. Whatever though. Screw Sprint.
spiffy8jimbo 04-17-2007, 09:42 PM ok t-mobil gets no service anywhere. i have cingular and get service at alot of places Verizon doesnt get (freind has verizon and has to use my phone b/c he doesnt have service). I want to check into Altell or whatever its called. And Amp'd Mobile.
JJ Byzanz 04-17-2007, 10:50 PM Cingular is the best.. hands down. Can't beat it.

This may be applicable as long as you're in the Atlanta area and/or the SE. But nationally, Cingular had a lot more holes in their coverage maps than Verizon did.
As noted earlier, where you'll be plays into what you'll get.

So, does the OP travel much then?

CVGTURBO86 04-18-2007, 07:00 PM Cingular. oh and the iPhone is NOT uber lame.
spiffy8jimbo 04-18-2007, 08:44 PM i think the ipod is lame, because i want a phone. i can just go buy an ipod. it will hardly store enough songs for "one" to enjoy as much as a regular mp3/4/5 playe can, or so ive heard....i actually know nothing about it lol.

starwind 04-19-2007, 11:39 AM cingular and verzion are the best (sprint and Tmoble moble sucks ballz) your going to have to sign a contract for 2 years unless ya want to pay 150-300 for the phone (you can buy out of the contract for 175,so.. if the phone is free...)if ya dont want a contract then I can call around and find ya a older model for cheap, mabe. any one thats near snellville stop buy and say hello =)
