Involved in what? Track events?

DessicatorGC

I'll be there, most likely driving, if not them im working.

the best way to get involved is to work with NASA. for every 2 events you work (corner flag, grid, ect.) you get 1 FREE weekend on the track :)

its a great way to learn how the weekend runs, and learn what each flag means and all that good stuff. that and all the racers (the good ones anyways) respect the heck out of their flaggers.

Involved with NASA and the DE Events....

First, join NASA at http://www.nasa-southeast.com/.

Second, attend a HPDE (as an observer) to see if it is something that really interests you after talking to the participants, etc.

Third, sign up for one and give it a shot. I would strongly recommend signing up for a BMWCCA event before you do any NASA events. The next BMWCCA event is in July, so you could go to a NASA event before then just to check out the atmosphere, etc.

For the DE events just sign up once registration is open. We shouldn't be too far away (a month or so) from the July registration.

Tim,

I'll be at Roebling in May...

MeFryRice,

As far as getting more involved I agree with Bill as far as visiting an event to get an idea about what goes on at them. I am the registrar for the BMW CCA events (and recommend our events ;) ). If you're interested in helping NASA's program for free track weekends is pretty good and we are always interested in volunteers to help the BMW events run smooth.

See you at the track

bah, never should have bought the new house, missing yet another event.

and yes, RRR has plenty of lines to choose from. I think I enjoy it more than RA at times. And I think it is harder to drive well than RA.

Disclaimer: I have only been driving for 3 years of so, so consider how big that grain of salt is.

and yes, RRR has plenty of lines to choose from. I think I enjoy it more than RA at times. And I think it is harder to drive well than RA.

Roebling is definitely a harder track than RA. On the plus side (for a newb) it's a fairly safe track. There's only one place where you can ball the car up, at Turn 9. If one finds himself a little hot or wide at T9, just let the car go controllably off the track. It's nothing a car wash can't fix. The impulse is to yank the wheel to keep the car on the track. This will likely result in the car shooting across to the inside of the track, where you'll hit the only wall there. Pit wall. As you drive by, look for the black marks all over this wall.

I couldn't offer any advice on the line because I've driven that track so many times in different cars that I probably have 5 different lines. I forget which is the BMW line.

well, the red car needs a clutch. (actually, needs a throwout bearing, but at ~160k miles on the stock clutch, it would be retarded to go that far in and only replace the TOB.)
it also needs brake backing plates / cooling ducts.... and an oil change.

will I have time to do all of this by next friday? hmmmm

The beds and pillows in the new Holiday Inn (express?) are worth nightly rate alone. Bar none the best night of sleep I've had in a hotel in years.

What do people suppose would be a good lap time for a stock (except spings/bilsteins) '98 M3 sedan? I could'nt break a high 1:27 to save my life but then I've always sucked at RR. I saw a yellow IP car there yesterday that was cooking off high 1:18s...kind of depressing to realize I'm 10 seconds slower than a fairly similar car. That driver was amazing.

TTB record is 1:20, not sure I can top that? I'll be at the track all day on Friday to tune the car for the weekend. I'll be camping in the TT section of the paddock, stop by and say hi.
