Carbs are one of the only mechanical things that just BOGGLE my mind. I can't rebuild them, or tune them.

My brother's 1970 2002 has a carb and i fear playing with it, but the engine bucks a tad under full throttle in 1 2 3 so im afraid to flog her with a carb that's not flowing properly.

I run a 32/36, and boy, does it run!
Matt, maybe try leaning it out just a little bit? That's what we do on the karts when they start dying when we get on the throttle.

I'm running a Solex 4A1 carb on a 2.7L M20 (Eta Motor). I absolutely hate this carb. One of the previous owners removed the choke, so it runs like garbage until warm. I might be picking up a 1990 M20 out of a 325I this Saturday...then...Bye bye Carb.

I love carbs, maybe because like Jmabarone, I'm used to the carbs in Karts and bikes. But I despise this CIS. I have all the pieces to convert to real EFI, except the drive. Been really lazy with this cold spring here in the Northeast

yeah, the karting has really helped me with tuning. I guess what I really love is like, ITBs, so maybe if I had 40 DCOEs I'd like the carbs more...not that mine doesn't have quite a bit of snappiness to it.

Carbs are nice and easy, but don't offer the precision of efi. Retuning carbs for higher altitudes, colder weather and the likes is a pain, whereas on efi the computer and sense and change it. Efi is also nicer for boost where you don't have to change your turbo seals for a drawthrough application or tune for a blow through application. Having said that though, nothing beats the sound of a car with sidedrafts.... especially the hakasuka gtr..

No sweat, its all a difference of opinion. In terms of sound there isnt anything sexier that sidedrafts, especially on the hakasuka gtr, which i still attest is the best sounding n/a engine I have ever heard.
