'97 840Ci w/ Steptronic transmission

Due to vibration starting at 25 mph and going up to about 40+ I'm going to replace the driveshaft. I don't want to fight this more than once so I'm replacing the entire ds inc. the guibo (sp?) (rubber disk) and the center bearing/ support.

Are there any tips/tricks to this job? I have the Bentley '97 - '02 5 Series Service Manual and It says I'll need to support the transmission and remove the tranny crossmember. It also says NOT to re-use the self locking nuts for the driveshaft bolts. I believe you need to pre-load the center support bearing mount (I assume toward the tranny) apx. 4 - 8 mm. Other than that there's not much too it. Oh yes, I believe there's a correct orientation issue on the rubber disk (guibo ?) re: bolt direction. Is there anything else I'm missing?

TIA

Did you take care of this yet ?

I'm about to do mine and have an answer to one of your questions.there are arrows on the part the point to the front and back to show you where to bolt it to.

I'm also trying to work out if the bolts need replaced.

I have not done this yet because Gault just got the driveshaft in from Germany yesterday.

I think you're refering to the guido (??) which has arrows in the rubber to indicate which holes get the bolts vs. nut sides?

From what I've read you SHOULD replace the bolts/nuts but if you don't at least use Loctite Blue on the threads.

Did this a couple of days a go and all I had to buy was new lock nuts and the guibo.

Driveshaft came on Fri. but I won't get to replace it until next week. The guibo came on the new driveshaft.

Blairrm, did you run into any issues?
