We do have a few 8s in the US and Japan is sending their extras to Canada anyway.

Yes, that is right. A lot of E32, E34, E31 (and only the best usually, there is a clever guy here buying them) and of course Alpina cars are exported to Canada. Usually the japanese cars have very low mileage, no rust and usually are well maintained.
I chased an E32 750iL Highline (never sold in USA) here in Tokyo for 2 years. It was standing there at a dealer and had only 22 k km!, so less than 20 k miles. Price was too high, so I thought I wait till it goes down. It was finally sold to Canada and I found the Ebay auction, final price was 19.600.
One of the best condition cars I have ever seen, showroom quality.
