View Full Version : navigation question
wilkr1 04-15-2007, 01:08 AM Greetings all, i just picked up my baby today. I have one question, i live in the tri state area, but the navigation does not display the name of the streets on screen, is there a setting that i must change to see street names??
jawaii99 04-15-2007, 07:48 AM Hey Wilkr1 - If you are in the 3D "perspective" mode, you will not see any street names. Change to "Direction of Travel" or "Always facing North" (from the Navigation sub menus) and you should be able to see 'some' street names. Remember to turn the idrive dial clockwise to the 400, 800 ft. view and you will see the names, although not every street. In my opinion, not the best Nav system out there for the price.
wilkr1 04-15-2007, 09:12 AM Thanks i will check that out.
slotjocko 05-20-2007, 12:38 PM Not to high-jack, or anything...but I've got a similar question. The NAV in my '07 Yukon shows the route you are traveling, even if not en route to a destination, by dropping little blue dots, purportedly called bread crumbs. The bene is if you get turned around, you can tell where you've been and retrace your steps. I've asked some BMW tech guys, but they don't seem to be very up on i-drive, and wondered if anyone cared to weigh in on the possibility of toggling some switch on that would somehow visually mark the route you are driving, even if not headed to a specific destination.
Thanx,
Scott
Gibbo 05-21-2007, 03:04 AM The zooming in feature is the only way to get more street details. From the detail I have gone through on the Nav system there is no bread crumb option.
The Nav system is very good in my opinion, mind you we do not have to pay extra for it. The digital TV tuner is also great for when you have time to kill sitting at a parking station or waiting for someone.
Don't think there is a bread crumbs feature, I wish it did though. I had them on my previous car which was an acura.
slotjocko 05-21-2007, 06:44 AM c'mon..ur yankin me on this one, right? a TV tuner?
I'd love to know what the backup camera option costs. I was told that the car had the rear bumper park assist, but when it showed up it wasn't on there.
Also, is anyone surprised that the NAV doesn't have txt-to-voice, where the street names are announced rather than just a distance to turn? I was lost one night out of town and mis-judged how far the 100-yard to turn was and ended up going the wrong way down a 1-way. Very smart.

In Aussie land they can do this, but not here in the US with all the lawyers!!!
NotoriousShadie 05-22-2007, 06:31 AM yeah australian bmws come very well equipt compared to american cars. But the 335i is $AU108,000, with nearly everything standard except for little things like comfort access.
heres a list of the options and stuff that we get...
