I don't know how many folks think about doing this but I decided to go ahead and change the ones on my E36 and E39. Seemed like night and day as far as screwing the cap in. I had heard there's wear and tear on this item due to the pressure valve wearing out. But I also noticed that my old caps were somewhat difficult to screw on and off. Screwed the new ones on and it was almost effortless.
Caps are also quite inexpensive so maybe this can be considered a preventive maintenance item every 60k or so.

You should do the same thing with your gas cap, I like to preemptively replace them every two years or so.

Speaking of gas caps... here's some pure silliness: On E46s, when they're locked and you tap the gas flap it unlatches the spring thingy so that when the unsuspecting owner returns to their car and unlocks the doors, the flap flips open. :stickoutt

It's no wonder my wife keeps telling me to try and act my age.
