***Updated Pics Page 2***

After looking for a while, I found the e30 I was looking for. Bought it from 3shwenty8 here on bf.c. Thanks Ari, it was great meeting you and the drive down was a lot of fun.

This is my first e30 after two e36 m3's and two e46 m3's. I love the feel of the e30 already and can't wait to run with a few of you at the DE's.

91 325i bronzit, only 123k miles, 3.73 LSD, black sport interior, Bilsteins w/ H&R sports, Ansa catback.

It has a great service/maintenance history. A few little dings and the bronzit is suffering from that 'cracking' flaw, so new paint will eventually be coming.

Short list of plans are a ssk and wheels. I'll be looking for specE30 legal wheels, so min have to be 13 lbs. I know the Team Dynamics and Kosei K1's will work. Anyone know other wheel options in the 15" variety?

Thanks for looking. Pics taken right after the drive down, so the car is in need of a good cleaning.

I'm also curious about front lip options. With the specE30's, is the only one you can add the 'IS' lip?

Yeah, the clean interior was a big plus. Since this was only the second e30 I've ever sat in (first was Bill's) I'm surprised how comfy the seats are.

If I was in France maybe.

What lenses are they? Would you be willing to trade for non-tinted lenses, instead of peeling them off?

I recommend talking to Chuck at Factory3performance (www.factory3performance.com). He is a 3-series specialist and has a Spec E30 race car. He has the team dynamics wheels you are looking for. I would recommend them because there is no need for spacers or centering rings. The question is whether you like the 5 spoke or 13 spoke look. He'll set you up on just about anything you need.

Don't forget to check/change the timing belt (60k miles or every couple of years of track duty).

As far as spoilers go, you can go with an IS spoiler (Chuck can get you one) but you can also go aftermarket. The Spec E30 rules talk about a front splitter requirements. Not to sound too much like the series administrator but print the rules out and keep them in the car as you build. More information and questions should be on www.spece30.com where most of the guys from that series keep tabs.

Good luck and we'll see you out there. By the way, (according to Patton), if the AC still works it's too nice to turn into a race car :nono

PDWebb
04-16-2007, 03:52 PM
Thanks for all the heads up, yeah the AC does work rather nicely so I'll keep it blowing cold as I go to the track schools.

I've been looking at the specE30 site, thanks for the ref. on the wheels. Team Dynamics does look like a good choice.

Do you have some? Seems a good set of e30 wheels used are hard to come by. I'll be looking for a 'street' set in addition to the team dynamics or kosei's.

If you're serious about making a race car out of this, you might consider the splitter to be a consumable! We've been known to leave them behind when hopping curbs. Unless you want to get fancy with aftermarket or you have some fabrication skills, just go with a factory 'i' or 'is' splitter. The only difference is the depth (and the cost). Also, odds are that the retaining clips on your valence are missing and/or broken. Very cheap little plastic bits to replace. I keep a bunch in my spares box...

Very nice E30!!! Seats look great.

Thanks again everyone. I did take some time looking for this little guy. To look great it will need fresh paint and there are a couple little dings.

I spent some time this afternoon in the garage under the hood of the car, everything looks great as I continue to go through it. Tomorrow the Redline fluids are going in and I'll spend more time pulling and checking everything.

It's been a month with the car and I've been getting it ready for a DE with NASA at Roebling next weekend.

Over the last few weekends I went through replacing everything from fluids, brakes with those new rotors from UUC, Rieger lip, fog blanks, belts, hoses, replaced timing belt and adjusted the valves. These e30's are great to work on.

I've been working on trying to find just the right wheels for it, luckily I came across a group buy on those Alpina replicas, unfortunately they won't be in until the end of the month.

To hold me over until then and to give a good little run at Roebling next weekend I painted the bottlecaps and ordered some Falken rt615's for them.

After this DE, I know there be a bit more work done to it before the July bmwcca weekend up at Road Atlanta.

For all of you that will be at Roebling next weekend, see you there. :wave

There was a bit of a difference between the original 'i' lip and this Rieger (if anyone wants one, Mel at Abraham Motorsports gave me a great price on it, he is BMWE34M5 on the boards here and a supporting vendor).

I agree the IS lips look good, one thing I really like about the Rieger is it uses bolts all the way around instead of those flimsy bmw clips (not that that's going to help a lot if I hit anything with it anyway)

I figure this one will be a little more functional too since it's a bit bigger.

it attaches the same way all the other lips attach... it slides onto and locks onto those little clips...

Not true.

When you take those clips off you'll see holes at each clip. I clamped the lip on, marked the holes on the lip and drilled the lip to match the bumper's holes. Then it was as simple as bolting it on with the supplied bolts. Ended up being 10 bolts included instead of the 8 clips.

The new wheels are supposed to be delivered today! I'm hoping to get the tires on in the next couple days and then find some time for pics.

You'll have to send a pic of your new car when you pick it up.

Not bad as long as you follow all the steps, double, triple check the cam and crank are at their timing marks before putting everything back together. I like how the Bentley manual explained it.

You bet, see you there.

We'll see how much better the new LCA's with m3 bushings feel on the track. Only other new work on the car was a set of pedals. I had a set made that gives a full heel/toe extension of about 1 inch.

I need to get that heel-toe crap figured out...problem is the car is always getting worked on, so I never drive it except at the track, and that is the last place to practice heel-toe.

Still getting the cage installed. I will not have a chance to drive it before the CCA event, I don't think, as Harrison has a bunch of stuff to do to it after the cage is in...

The good news is that it will be a 100% SpecE30 car in less than 2 weeks.
