Hi - I got a 2005 X3 model and tried in vain to connect my bluetooth phone. It has a business navigation system - small lcd - and I have a button with a handset icon close to the volume dialer. I tried several combination but nothing made bluetooth pairing to appear on the LCD. I search through the menu and there was nothing about the phone. I have only radio/navigation/set... Any idea?

thanks in advance.

I think there should be a manual specifically for that, giving you the instructions as well as the pin which enables you to pair your phone to your car.

didnt find anything like that. I was wondering if someone has a similar model like mine (especially this business navigation) and can give me some hints how to setup the pairing...

Maybe someone will have the manual and can guide you through. I had a 2004 X3 but it didn't have the bluetooth. My 2006 X5 does and there was a specific manual that came with the car that guided me through the setup process.

Good luck! :)

The problem may be in the difference between equipment delived in the US and in Europe. The US versions with Nav all (or almost all) had the "Premium Package" that included the BT-ready TCU (the telecom module). This was accompanied by a card with the BT passkey, which is necessary to pair the phone to the car.

But your situation is not hopeless yet. You can visually inspect the TCU. It should be behind the panel in the left rear of the cargo area, next to or on top of the Nav DVD player. (All directions are from the point-of-view of the driver sitting in the driver's seat.) You may have to remove the TCU or get a light and mirror behind it, but you want to check that (a) it is there and (b) it has the passkey on a label attached to it. If this sound confusing, you might want to simultaneously look at an X3 with a known operational BT unit and compare that one to yours.

@by01 - Thanks for your clear explanation! I think now I'm clear: I didnt find any TCU under my NAV DVD player - which is located on the left of the cargo area - looking from the back of the car inside of the cargo. Is this the only place the BT TCU is usualy placed by BMW?

Just of curiosity: do you have a a)professional nav (large color display) or a b)business nav (small 2,5" display black/orange - no map, just directions) - at least this are the BMW packages for nav systems in Europe.

If you have b) do you also have a small button with a phone icon close to the dialer buton of the radio?

Thankd again for your support!

Although it may possibly confuse things more, I need to give some background... My MY 2004 X3 has the Professional Nav with the big screen and the the US "Premium Pkg." It had a TCU and the BT card, but the BT was not enabled on US 2004's despite all that (and despite having the "talky face" button on the steering wheel). I had BMW retrofit a MY 2005 TCU (same size, same location, but with a functioning BT system--and a different part number). On these vehicles the Nav and the TCU are clearly two separate units, although mounted next to each other.

In October 2006 I rented a 325i from Sixt in Germany that had the Business Nav (no map, just directions), so I am possibly one of the few people who has compared them. Since it wasn't my car, I didn't pull it apart to see how the Nav and TCU were installed. (But I was tempted!) As a result I can not guarantee that the TCU is a separate unit from the Nav in that set-up or that it installs in the same location.
