In my 07 X3 the doors are locking by themselves when I start do drive. But in the manual it sais that it can be reset, although they don't say how. Does anyone knows how to reset the door lock so it won't close by itself? I don't see a need for it.

Only dealer can program this.

I kind of like it. when I have people in the car I just hit the unlock button on the console when I stop.

It's programmed by the dealer on your key. You can ask them to turn it off, on, and even decide what speed it locks the doors (there's a list like 16, 20, etc KM/h).

There is plenty of other stuff configurable on the keys. The manual has a special icon to notice an "configurable item". You can also ask the dealer for a form with the configurable items.

That's ridicules. First, they giving me something I don’t need, and than they charge for setting it back to normal. That is racket alright.

There was a rumor before the 07’s got here that “ You WOULD NOT have to visit your stealer EVERY time you wanted to reprogram something”

You should have received a copy of SI B 09 03 98 BEFORE you received your X3.

When I mentioned that we did not receive any information about “Car and Key Memory Settings E83 (X3)” to our service advisor, he quickly signed us up for a free visit with the programmer.

I wonder if you had been buying a M3 instead of your X3 if you would have received a little more attention?

I copied this from another forum.

Another happy BMW customer that DID NOT receive

I think what albran means is the same that happened to us.

By default, the dealer just quickly mentions that some features can be configured in the key, and that the users manual shows those options, but they don't give us the table shown above unless we ask them, not they mention more details about it.

But then, if you know and do want the key to be configured, you can ask them for the form, and have the first key configuration procedure for free.
(Subsequential configurations are paid though).

So I guess the idea is get you car, read the manual, get familiar with the car features, discover that you can configure them and how you want it configured, and get then get it configured for free.

I suppose the idea is to avoid "first time users" to think they'll want option1 and 2 because they read it in some forum, and then after a month of driving the car they discover they really wanted option 3 and 4, and will then have to pay the key configuration. Dunno.

Either way, talk with your dealer and see if the first time configuration is paid or for free. Argue that you should get it for free :)

I'm sure the dealer can do it for you. At least mine did.
