View Full Version : 2007 X5 3.0 - enough power?

Hi,

I was wondering whether anyone has considered the 3.0 X5, and if they found it to be underpowered.

The missus currently drives the RX330 (yawn), and is thinking of getting something more fun to drive.

Obviously the X3 is hideous. The X5 is nice, but I'm worried we might have to go for the 4.8 for the real fun. Ouch.

Any comments would be much appreciated.

I drove it - kinda like a 325i, *yawn*. Once you get in the 4.8 price range though consider looking at other makes/models. Range Rover Sport for instance, not as quick though.

I had this question as well, do you think a 3.0 would cost more in the long run for gas because a biggere engine would pull the weight better?

IIRC, the EPA estimates are almost identical; it'd be up to the driving style.

I take out the M3 or TT if I have the need for speed. Seriously, in Arlington, you're mainly on cruising the Interstate, right? Or stuck in traffic. <grin> Don't worry. You'll keep up with everyone. :alright

I have a X3 3.0i - it's as fast as you'd expect an SUV to be. If you want speed, buy a M3.

The X3 being hideous, in your opinion, has nothing to do with it's driveability. If you want to talk about an SAV that is nible and fun to drive...

I have an '06 X5 3.0 and it has more than enough power for what I use it for, driving. If I need to pass someone, I switch it to manual mode and it's even more responsive.

How about this...go to a dealership and test drive both.

Clever...test drive them both.

Did that last night...there's no way we can get that 3.0.

I was told that they'll be adapting the same engine currently in my 335i, and about to be in the 535i for the X5.

I think I'll wait. Hopefully the performance gap between the new 3.0 and the 4.8 will not be as great.

I had no problem with the power of the 3.0 X5 ... until I got the 335i. But then, when the weather turns bad!

I am really trying to wean the wife off of the Chrysler. She doesn't seem to understand what a dog it is. 3.5 liter HO, 24 valve american sports sedan. Sure, I really believe that.

My mom just got one about a month ago. Throttle is very touchy. Its not necessarily slow but it lacks torque baddddddddd out of the hole its got nothing but upper RPMs are decent.

The 4.8 is really quick, so if you're looking for speed, don't even bother looking at the 3.0.
