I just purchased a 2004 545i and i am trying to find out if I can add a Sirius satellite reciever to my car and have it come up on the display panel. The car was made 10/03 and come with AM/FM/CD.
Anyone have any ideas on how i can get Sirius in my new car?

I have a similar question in that I am the market for either a 550 or 545 but I want Sirius and an Ipod interface. Can this be done in a 545? I don't think it is an issue in the 550. Any input would be appreciated.
Just found out today... yes it can, but the coding needs to be altered.

as long as the car had satellite prep ( option 693) it can be done, otherwise, you're sol.

call the dealer, and have them run the DCS report and see if it has Sat prep as an option.
you'll definately have to have them install it, though. i don't think you want to mess with the fiber optics. and it has to be retrofitted/programmed with the Progman anyway.

I had my '04 545 6 speed made with every avilable option . Germany would not install or prep for the satellite! According to BMW, with Nav, sound, HUD and other electronics, it was no go, AND, I could not go aftermarket.
Never happy with that! If Hundae can do it, why not BMW?

I may be sticking my nose in where I shouldn't but here it goes.
With the e65/e66 you can add Sirius even if you didn't get the car with the 693 option. There is a retro fit for the 2005 models. (Not sure about the 02-04's) It does cost twice the amount ($750 for the "kit" and $750 for the Sirius.) I'm not sure how it falls with the 5ers.
Just thought I'd chime in. Hope this helps. Oh, and FWIW, adding Sirius is , or was for me, a major PIA. It took them 15 days to get it working on an option 693 preped car.

sucks for you. something must have crashed during the programming.
all the ones I've done take an hour or so, plus some programming time.

YEah, it did suck. No kidding. The 7er is a bit more complicated. That and I did have some other problems they had to work out a few weeks later.
