Hi all,

I'm thinking about buying a 540i in the next few months... I was wondering what are some of the common issues with this model, ie what mileage do things tend to break or need to be replaced. I am going for an automatic for personal health reasons so don't be all down on me :D . Also what sort of gas mileage city/hwy should I expect, none of that EPA suggested crap, I want real numbers.

You've made well over 1,000 posts in these forums and didn't know any better than to read the FAQs, etc?

Anyway... not all this can be found there, but searching helps a bit. do a search on MPG and E39, the rest of the "what goes wrong/what breaks/wtf is that noise OMG WHAT IS THAT NOISE???!" stuff is up in the FAQ.

Oh.. wait.. the noise.....
