Thinking of coming in Mid-Late May.

Want to stay in the city ( got suggestions )
but would like to get out and see...

Aquarium looks cool, suspension bridge, Lots of Museums, etc.

How is transportation ( don't want to get a car )?

All advice welcome.

Check out:

Click on the "things to do" link and check out the events Calendar. There's an all British Car event at Van Dusen (uptown and a quick public transit trip) in late May. You can go there as see all sorts of classic English Money Pits, I mean, Motor Carriages.

Aquarium is worth the visit. The suspension bridge is now open again (a very large tree had fallen on it earlier this year due to a wind storm.) Museums are not the greatest (really amateur compared to say, Toronto, New York, or Washington DC).

Transportation via bus is fine if you avoid rush hour. If you are staying downtown you will be within walking range of:

- Robson Street (lots of eye-candy if the weathers good. Check out the Aldo Shoes outlet since they definitely have a hiring policy based on visual appeal. Earls Restaurant and Cactus Club have the same filter.)

- Pacific Centre (Shopping, drop off the better half there and you can go to check out Robson... :) )

- Chinatown (walk or a quick bus trip).

- Gastown (a bit touristy)

- Yaletown (trendy = expensive coffee and alcohol)

Things to avoid:

100 W Hastings.
Chinatown and Gastown border a very seamy part of the city, so avoid Hastings and Main and the surrounding area. It's OK during the day, but not a good place after nightfall.

Cambie Street.
Normally not a big deal, but the current construction project (a rapid transit line) has made Cambie resemble a WWI trench. Traffic can and will be painful. You will see that Granville downtown is under the same construction project.

Queen Elizabeth Park is usually accessed by Cambie (although it is just as easily accessed by Main St.) At any rate, I think it's a bit of a yawner. If you want flora, go to Van Dusen and at least see some cars if you're coming on the right week.

If there's anything specific you want to know about, feel free to message me. :)
