View Full Version : Toyo RA1 Rotation, Pressure Camber

I have been running RA-1's at HPDE's and have a few questions.

The outside edge of one of the two fronts is scalloped badly. I am running about -3.7 degrees of camber. I have been aiming for about 41 psi hot. Haven't worked out a good quick way to check tread temps, though I do have a tire pyrometer. Anyways...

1) In general, when rotating these tires, what is the preferred rotation pattern (side to side, front to back, diagonal)?

2) Should I consider having the scalloped tire remounted so that the outside edge then becomes an inside edge?

3) Me thinks (based on handling) that 41 psi is a touch high. When I searched I got a range of 37-43 degrees--what are people's favorite "sweet spot" pressure?

4) I can't really get much more camber out of my TC Kline camber plates and DA Koni set up. If I need more than about 4 degrees negative, any suggestions on how to get it?

Thanks--Scott

I can't imagine you're rolling onto the outside edge with -3.7 camber. Seems like something else is going on.

I rotate mine front to rear and side to side. And I flip them on the wheels when they're about half way done. RA-1s are happy going in any direction. Even upside down ;)

Mine seem to work best at 38-39lbs hot.

My thinking as well--but I am a loss for what could be going on (unless someplace on the track my steering input is too abrupt, thus overwhelming the sidewall stiffness)?

For example, under very hard braking then trail braking into a sharp slow corner???

I run -3.5 camber up front on my E36 M3 with 1/8" toe out and get very even tire wear with RA-1s. I try to get them to 39.5 psi hot.

What is your front toe set at? I doubt you're having a camber issue at -3.7. What are your spring rates?

Front toe is either zero to slightly toe out. Springs (if I recall) are either 450 or 500 pound.

Scaloping the shoulder of the tire generally means you have a blown damper or the tire is self destructing.

Camber depends a lot on spring rates though - we used to run 5+ on these. They have a flexy sidewall also, another reason for more camber.
