I purchased the vehicle Certified Pre-Owned with 6,700 miles in March 2006. Since December 2006 until now the car has been back five times to the local dealer for attempts at resolving the continued brake squeal heard from the front of the vehicle. At the 5th attempt BMW Technical Service was involved and attempted to resolve the issue with some form of squeal grease - the noise, once again, is back. This is in addition to having to have the Steering Rack and Sunroof replaced (under warranty) due to defects.

This is my third BMW and I have had a number of issues with my previous two (both purchased new). I have no desire to switch to another automaker - but this sequence of events may force me to do so...

I'm looking for suggestions regarding resolution of the squeal issue, ideas for dealing with the local dealer, and input regarding successes with handling similar issues with BMW directly. The local dealer has continued to request that I work through him - I however feel that it's his way of not getting penalized by BMW for not having resolved the issue sooner.

Hey,

I work for Bmw as a master technician, and I have to tell you, we have had many on going issues with brake squeal on e60's, e65's and even some e90's... The fix as of now that bmw recommends is to change the pads. which honestly doesnt do much.. at first they said it was the brake pad sensor rubbing the rotor, well they came out with an updated version and it still has yet to fix all the problems.. there is one thing I have tried that seems to work quite well.. Wurth makes this product called sbs brake treatment. it is in an aerosol can and is applied like spray paint. it seems to do the job. Im from boston so not too sure where you bought the bmw. I would suggest that to them maybe it will fix the problem

yeah, most of the noise is coming from the wear sensor rubbing on the rotor. E6x +'s have the sensor that after just a few thousand miles touches the rotor continuosly, not just when the pads wear out. Kinda gives an estimated brake wear, which is how the vehicle counts down to when the pads are due. There's a bulletin to replace just the pads, and sensor on the affected axle. Usually fixes the problem. If not, you could always pull out the sensor, and zip-tie it out of the way.
