View Full Version : American car, no central lock?

I didn't want to hijack the other thread so the requested pictures of my central lock-less console are here. I know the car was originally purchased in PA. It's dated 3/94.

The coin holder matches the rest of the vinyl/trim perfectly. It's actually kind of stuck there. I tried to move it a little. It doesn't look like it's fitting right because of the detatched vinyl but it's actually a snug fit on all sides.

Don't mind the saggy vinyl, I'm either re-gluing it or replacing it within a month. That's also not a stain on the door, it's sunlight. Took these with my phone, my sweet camera is on loan for the week.

Hmm interesting coinholder you got there. Color seems to match the rest, just weird it has this small gap on the left side.

I guess central locking was not stock/available on 1994 cars. Otherwise...I have no idea!

And if you want the cupholders/coinbox/(ash)tray for your center console. Order:82 27 9 404 572 (http://bmwfans.info/part-82279404572/)

And I'm still in the dark about this one: (Rear centre console)

I bet the rear center console is an add-on.

Glad to see someone else's car was set up the same way. I was starting to get worried... :P I wonder why some cars were made that way and others weren't.

Same here...'95 318 w/no central lock. Although, strangely enough, sometimes when I'm driving around with the top down...suddenly my doors will lock on their own! Hmmmm :confused Haunted???

i have the thing in the door and the coinholder in the center too. you have no drink holder at all , i guess thats good cause nothing fits in it except a cel phone or a redbull. all the vinyl on my door panels is also coming un glued.

hi, i have the same setup as you. No central locking and the coin thingy at the door. its suppose to be on the smaller compartment tho i think thats y its got a gap. Let me double check im going on memory here:( The thing is just stuffed in there really tight and if you pull it out it will give i know this coz i i had one in my 320 coupe too and i took it out to move it to the vert pasenger side. my center consul is like yours too but i got the armrest from a friend that had one and was selling hes car. I also got a cup holder that goes into the space next to the ashtray. its got space for 2 cups but the sucky thing about it is unlike the ones with the coin thing you have to have your armrest up to use the holders:( I will try to take some pics it soon and post here.

Yah, I'm going to have to re-glue my vinyl down there.

jcy, I'd like to see a picture :)

I also saw an OEM part for a big cupholder that fit by clipping on to where my coin box is in the side of the door. I was afraid it'd hit my leg, though.

Low(er) and High(er) spec models / options.

I have the center lock and rarley use it, I just put my elbow on the lock pin on the door itself usually and it locks the other side :) And I also have the door mounted coin holder and the center console with a coin holder also :D

I have all available options (not counting M cars and wood trim) like heated seats, pop-up roll bars, cd changer etc. Maybe the person buying my car was like, "Nah, I don't need a central lock button!".

All options? There's lots of option that you migh not even knew about (as I did). And yours being older, some options might not have been available yet.

Check my sig. I have quite some options, but still not everything. Although I believe that excluding electric seats and cruise control, I have all big options. (well and no door airbags, but these were not available yet).

Yah, lets see, I know I have at least:

Semi-auto top, climate control, fully-auto sports seats, heated seats, ABS & Traction control (w/little button), airbags (side not available this early), leather armrest (is that an option?), ski hatch & sack, pop-up rollbars, heated doorlocks, OEM 6-disc changer in the trunk in OEM pull down drawer. I was told something about heated windshield fluid. I'm probably forgetting something or not mentioning something I didn't know was an option.

I don't think it's the base model. It just doesn't have a central door lock switch for some reason :P

Those are cool cupholders! What part number is that?

Interesting that you have the same setup as me yet your car is a '96. I guess that defeats the "old car" theory... :)

i gues it depends where you got the car from too :) mine is from japan that i brought to the philippines. Im still trying to get the file on what exactly comes with my car from the factory. The cup holder i got from a friends car i actually had 2 of those cupholders the other one was kinda carbor fiberish looking wasnt really my thing so i gave it to a buddy that didnt have a cupholder too. Will check the part number on it later and post back :) I also moved the arm rest from my 92 320i that i got from another car too hehehe. so might be a year thing :) trying to get what options i can to make the car better:)

Those are cool cupholders! ...

No they are not :D

Why? look how low they sit. A little bit of a larger can and...let alone a bottle.

Doesn't seem OEM too.

I would just get the one I showed on the RealOEM diagram.

Hahaha, I think the OEM ones are bulky looking. I guess that's just me.

i have that cupholder. its a big and kind of goofy, but it gets the job done.

i have it mounted on the passenger side so it doesnt get in my way, yet passenger still has a cupholder that is far from the shifter area. i had a friend spill a giant cup of lemonade all over the shifter & switches once. :mad

ill take a pic sometime if i think about it.Yah, lets see, I know I have at least:

I don't think it's the base model. It just doesn't have a central door lock switch for some reason :P

door lock wasnt an option. it just wasnt available the year your car was made. i believe they added it for the 96 or 97 model year in the states.

I remember seeing those dents in the glovebox door and laughing at them :) I'm totally going to see about ordering the pop out holders for the glove box or the jcy's style ones for under the armrest.

Do you have issues with the glovebox light going out from keeping it open so long for the drinks?

Glovebox, interior and boot comparment lights all go out automatically after 15 minutes if you leave open a door and/or bootlid to save the battery.

Wow i thought that 15minute shut off thing is only for interior dome lights... Cool feature...

Part 10 there. My part # is 51418171795 . It's interesting how beige and gray are listed for $42.13 while black costs only $24.27... :)

BTW...my car: no central lock, have the coinholder on the door & also have the small console/ashtray thingy connected to my main console at the back.
