My brother in law has the Chrysler. We did a few highway runs and we all know the outcome :(

We exited onto the two lane and things were definatly different. 2 mile run until the corners. Hit the 40mph corners that are about 3 miles long. It wasn't even close. I passed him on the outside of the first corner and just held her in 3rd gear (80-105) and all I could see is him, in my rearview mirror, overstearing and pushing that car to its limit. I just stayed in the "correct" lane and didn't even use the whole road. :buttrock

At the end we turned around and same results. Coming home though he ran his car pretty hard on the freeway and we all still know the results. :(

Wait til I get the M3 next spring. The freeway runs will be a different story. Gigitty.

Cliff notes. 300c SRT8 fast straight. gets creamed in the twisties.

Hmm, I remember in Car and Driver they tested the SRT-8 with the M5 and a couple other cars and it was VERY close on the race track. I think you beat the driver and not the car.

top gear did the same thing and wasn't even close. Althoug it was an E60. I have driven his car plenty and the Bimmer handles Much better! There is lots of overstear and you have to use a lot of left foot braking to keep her stable.

A revved out 318 would be able to keep up. hahaha

An SRT-8 would outhandle you, dont be too confident, you certainly beat the driver. Good kill anyway

Maybe it would...but they are not as easy to drive as the E90 330i...they are very heavy and difficult to handle when driving fast...I don't know, they never feel as "planted" as the bimmers.

So in the end you probably did outdrive the driver in the SRT-8, but it was still an awesome kill...that's what BMW's are all about...not necessarilly going the fastest, just having the best time driving them! ;)

I love how the OP totally glossed over what happened in the straights. Yes, he did *hint* that he lost, but he never really says it, nor does he even come near saying how much by, yet he is happy to wax eloquent on how the SRT-8 'got killed' in the curves.

Someone cross linked a 12.8 timeslip for a srt8 over to the 350z website, and it was stock. Those things are PDQ

Not a lot of Twisties in the Chicago area, so I will just have to imagine how that 318 will take my E55 AMG and Super Bee. Is my X5 supposed to take on anything in these twisties?

It was the slightly stiffer, better jounce controlled Charger. Both are fun around Laguna, definite edge to the Charger.

C&D called the chassis agility "remarkable".

No, no. You have it wrong.

We're not talking about your RSX here.

Why bother posting what happened in the straights?

"We took off and he left me like I wasn't even moving. The end"

acutually, coming from owning a 4000 lb 4 door rocket...In the twisties, one REALLY has to be a GREAT driver to out drive a lighter, better handling sports coupe or sedan...the weight plays a HUGE toll in the twistes...

Im not suprised you took him in the twisties...but dont try that with an RS...haha...they dont give up too easily...haha

I think the better handling part in this case is subjective. It may transition better side to side, but there are a lot of factors.

However, YES, you are correct. But you have AWD though.... :)

Is the boost easy to modulate in the sweepers?

funfgang

its a biturbo, so its acutually pretty linear delivery...and there isnt much boost at that...so its very easy to control the boost in the corners.

The transitions from side to side ARE what makes the difference in the end...but thats why my grip lets me...get even abit...when some whily 3 series or gti decides they want to play...haha

SRT8 are great in straight line, they are par with e46 M3.
Around corners they are not even close.

However with $3000 in mods I'm sure high 11s in the 1/4 are within reach.

PS I love the way they look.

.

An SRT8 will pull on an otherwise stock E46 M3.

The times are similar as well, low 13's@108-109mph. I have seen some guys dip into the 12's, too. Actually, they are an outstanding comparison to my car. For instance, I ran a 13.01@110mph and there were two SRT8's there that day. One ran a 13.1@109 and the other ran a 12.9@109.

Think M5 in terms of SRT-8 handling. Halfshafts tend to break in the 11sec cars w/ hard launches, though.
