Ok so I go to my cousins house just to go hang out for a while. He has just recently bought a 2001 325i exactly like mine expect the automatic sport package. So we're there just hanging out when all of a sudden my other cousin just makes the comment "who's is faster??" (wrong question) So I just say his is faster cause it's the sport package, and I brush off the conversation. So the evening goes on and he asked me if I wanted to go for a cruise, I said sure. We get on our cars and just cruise around, all of a sudden he guns it(OK???) I let it go he slows down and we hit a red light we get the front of both lanes. I roll down the window to ask him what happen, as soon as the window rolled down he says "I guess you were right mine is faster". I told him let me have another chance:D , Light turns green and we gun it, first gear head to head as the rpm's get higher I start pulling away slowly shift gear. 2nd gear my car does a little tire chirp but the same as first gear I keep pulling away slowly, by fourth gear I was already a 1 1/2 cl. Was that great shifting or is there that much of a difference in our cars? I have driven real drag cars before and I know how to drag race.

dude, evenly matched cars, manual trans will always be faster than auto.
First off, he has a little less horsepower and torque than you simply becasue of the torque converter (yes, itis a noticible difference in power for a car guy)
second off, obviously manuals shift faster than autos. (not SMG's or Drag trans)
and third'ly, he had to deal with his auto shifting before the redline, (not sure exactly where they do shift on that particular trans) while im assuming u brought it to th redline
This is no surprise

The shifting before the redline didn't happen cause he has that sport shift.

+1
manual is almost always going to be faster than its auto counter-part because of less drivetrain loss.
