View Full Version : 530i vs Merc S430
LuvMy328is 04-01-2007, 04:22 PM Ok so this is random and not too exciting but on my way to work I accidentally raced a Mercedes S430 ('04 '05ish M.Y.). I actually had a brand new CL600 in front of my at the stop light and the S430 beside it. The CL600 pulled off in to a gas station and then I got on it because I was late for work. This is a 4 lane road that is 50mph and ppl race on it all the time...but about 1 mile further away from town. I guess since I speed up quick the guy in the S thought I wanted to go, he floored it! I saw him and bit, I slapped the 5er in to "SPORT" and stood on it. It was pretty close up to about 50 and then I began to pull away. I had to slow down though since there was a minivan in front of me. As soon as I switched lanes (now behind the Merc), I floored it again he then switched to the right lane(we're side by side now), I began to catch up and slowly started to pass him!!! I was a bit surprised, the S430 is 275hp and 295ft-lbs. My 01' 530i is 225hp and 215ft-lbs with a drop in ITG filter ;)
Either way 530i vs S430 = 530i with the checkered flag

prash 04-01-2007, 04:31 PM S430's aren't fast. 0 - 60 in 7.6.
Nice kill
LAWLence 04-01-2007, 04:33 PM Weight difference.
Ohtwo 04-01-2007, 05:08 PM I'm suprised. Are you sure he stayed in it? How do those things sound at WOT?
LuvMy328is 04-01-2007, 05:26 PM Weight difference.

LoveLEE143 04-01-2007, 07:24 PM seems right to me. Good kill.
seven40 04-01-2007, 07:45 PM ... I accidently raced a Merceds S430 ('04 '05ish M.Y.). ...
:lol ... accidently raced, that's awesome. I say if the cops pulled you guys over only the merc driver should have been charged since all the race intent was on his end! ;)
Nice win though ... you accidently stopped him from posting BMW bashing comments on some Mercedes forum out there!
Shodanusmc 04-02-2007, 09:38 AM 430 is 267 HP, and are not that fast.
BavariaMotorist 04-02-2007, 12:22 PM Surprised at this outcome!
LuvMy328is 04-02-2007, 12:40 PM Well I know his car had a V8 and cost at least double mine....ahhhh satisfaction. Not a big Merc fan or fan of most owners either. :)

Look at the trap speed of MBZ 94 mph compare to your 530i's 92mph.........he should be faster than you up top. he maybe slow 0-60 but the benz should catch up to you and pass you. not the other way around.

The model you're quoting has the 7spd auto. That makes a huge difference. A 5spd auto S430 is much slower.

As the owner & lover of both brands, I can say that BMW owners are no better or worse than MBZ owners. :)

ok so just assume that it was a 5 spd auto? FYI, the 5 spd auto is faster according to THIS (http://www.autos.com/autos/car/luxury/2003/mercedesbenz/s430/base):)
A 530i spec from same site http://www.autos.com/autos/car/luxury/2001/bmw/530/i
Der Spielführer 04-03-2007, 11:27 AM Now you sound like a Civic owner beating a 530i and saying "it cost half of it...satisfaction"
The 530i and S class should never be mentioned in the same sentence :D, just like a Civic and BMW.

Montague 04-03-2007, 11:55 AM A 530 and and S class should not be mentioned in the same sentence when it comes to performance and agility. Just like an E36 M3 and a 2007 Camry, even though the Camry has more hp.
With the 2000 S-Class, Mercedes-Benz produced a leaner, sportier-feeling flagship sedan. A silken, hushed performer, it delivers strong pickup, great crosswind stability, confident handling, super braking, and an absorbent ride. Still too big and heavy to qualify as nimble, the sedan is pleasantly responsive, able to hustle along twisty roads with poise.
LuvMy328is 04-03-2007, 01:16 PM It could have been my "Sport" mode + ITG filter :) Oh and the guy driving was "jolly" looking, prolly 250ish and he had his wife with him. So I am guessing i was about 800lbs lighter.

qckSpectre 04-03-2007, 04:45 PM Good kill, my friend hannah drove her moms s430 for awhile becuase her car was in an accident. She let me drive it in my neiborhood and it was SLOW. I think a huge part of it was that her mom never, ever got it serviced on time or when it needed it. It was a pretty rough car just becuase of the way her and her mom drive it haha.. Sounds like you had fun though, good job! I drive an e39 530iA sports package too. These cars arent the fastest by any means but I do suprise alot of people on the road sometimes. I just got a ecu flash at GMP Auto here in charlotte, dont know exactly how much whp it produced in reality, but it sure does feel alot faster. I would recommend getting yours flashed.
