View Full Version : Manually Lowering Roof
Y0MSKI 04-01-2007, 09:10 AM Nothing happens when I press the switch to lower the roof.
Does anyone know how to lower a EM Roof manually? Is there an emergency process to follow?
I know how to raise manually!"
graywolf316 04-01-2007, 09:54 AM i think the owners manual shows how to...if u dont have it try the pdf one on here in the sticky at the top
MParallel 04-01-2007, 01:05 PM Either you don't pull it up enough over the tension point or the microswitch telling the motors it is is malfunctioning/broken.
Or the bootlid interlock is broken.
Y0MSKI 04-01-2007, 01:27 PM The manual only mentions an emergency process for raising the roof not lowering :o( any more ideas pls??
TreibeFroh 04-01-2007, 03:03 PM Follow the ideas listed above /\ /\ /\, research online, check the 2 sticky threads, or take it somewhere to get looked at if you have no idea what these people are talking about.
phxpoly10 04-01-2007, 07:55 PM I had the same problem. It took me a while to figure it out. If you know how to raise it manually, then you know how to pull it down manually. Make sure the motors are not in. Release the top handle. pull the back up then pull the storage lid up thus you can push in the cov. top.

Y0MSKI 04-02-2007, 07:46 AM Sorry, but can someone kindly explain how or where the unlock switch/handle is located, to lower a EM roof maually. It's probably me being thick, but I just can't locate it! I keep seeing instructions to unlock rooof and raise roof over dead centre. I'll gladly does this, just as soon as I know how to manually unlock the roof.
Thanks guys for your patience and help in advance!

You aren't supposed to be able to do that. The emergency procedure is only to raise the roof, not lower it. See your owner's manual.

It's impossible to miss. It's a big handle right in front of the rearview mirror. If not, it's missing.
NiTrOuSoXiDe 04-02-2007, 12:45 PM My motor is broken so I have to raise/lower my roof manually. It's really not a huge problem. Just simply reach up for the little handle thingy right above your rear view mirror, pull it down, twist so it unlocks and push up. Then, get out of the car, fold the forward-most part up a little bit, fold up the rear part, open the storage hood, and fold the whole top into it's place under the hood. Close the hood and cruise!
MParallel 04-02-2007, 01:31 PM BTW, don't you think it's a little but rude to open the a new topic with a different title, asking for the same exact thing, on the same day in the same section?

Thanks guys for your patience and help in advance!youre not supposed to lower the roof manually.
if your roof will not lower the way that it was designed to be lowered, you should fix the problem instead of ignoring it.
the only manual part of lowering your roof should be undoing the latch near the rearview mirror and pushing it straight up a few inches. BTW, don't you think it's a little but rude to open the a new topic with a different title, asking for the same exact thing, on the same day in the same section?good call. threads merged together.
yomski - for future reference, it is not necessary to create multiple threads about the same issue. it does not get your problem solved quicker, it just irritates people that end up reading the same thing over and over. it clogs up the forum and makes it frustrating to for others to use for finding information.
millertimebmw03 04-02-2007, 08:21 PM I thought I would chime in.....just as a joke :P
just imagine if this is what the emergency release was for.....
"you and your buddies are crusing down to the beach and you see some girlys (guys for palomino :) ,,,,, and you yell to your friend.... "QUICK, get up back, lift the seat and pull the red lever, FAST the buttons not working !!! We gotta' get this top down NOW !!!!! " ha ha
Y0MSKI 04-02-2007, 08:29 PM Sorry Palomino for not being as perfect as you when it comes to using forums and posting threads.
I was always taught that if at first you don't succeed, try again.....
BTW if your that irritated, don't read the thread/s!! :o)
millertimebmw03 04-02-2007, 08:32 PM If your not pushing it up far enough or perhaps the trunk interlocks not working. I know it happened to me (wire loom to the left of the trunk, check the wires first) :D

Its not about being perfect. :rolleyes
I was just letting you in on the way the forum operates so that you can follow the rules.
I had already told you about this in another thread that you made multiples of as well. :rolleyes

Seriously man, 8 posts to make 5 threads in 3 different areas? Give it a break. Only one thread is necessary. Give it a few days for people that dont live on their computers to see it & reply. Bump it to the top every other day or so, if necessary. If no one solves your problem, well then that just sucks - Making more threads wont change it.
phxpoly10 04-04-2007, 09:05 PM if your still having problems, I can help you. You can call me or if you have an AIM, my name is phxpoly10. Send me an email so i can send you my cell: phxpoly10@gmail.com.
Remember, BMW does not recommend bringing the top down with the motors not engage. This is because your storage lid will not lock. However, I have been driving the conver down without the lock for almost 3 weeks and nothing has happen. The lid has not open while driving through hills or the highway. The fastest i have gone with lid open is 95mph. I do it because it has been hot here, California, and its super fun. (KIDS DONT TRY THIS AT HOME).
I do not take responsibility for any damage covert.
RamGoat 09-16-2007, 02:27 PM you guys were referring to lowering it if he has a MANUAL top, he clearly has an AUTOMATIC TOP therefore the lowering procedure is going to be totally different....
im in the same problem....i created a new thread and searched but all seem as though they are made for MANUAL tops.....
im trying to lower the top so i can reengage the motors while its down but its locked up....
