So this will hook right up to an E36 without any additional install kits, etc?

All you need is a $5 aftermarket stereo wiring harness. Or you can tap into your factory stereo wiring if you like [which is what I did]. All the wires are clearly labeled and it won't take more than 15 minutes to do them all. Very straightforward and easy.

in keeping with interest in the head unit, my interest that is, explain mp3's like i'm a two year old.

my factory changer plays mp3's burned on a disc (17 -20 songs) via windows media player. does this unit not play these? or are we talking a 700mb disc worth of mp3's dragged and dropped on a disc.

Ahh okay... Yeah, it will do the smae thing, it will behave just like your factory changer does.

You can burn Mp3s into AUDIO-CD format, and it will play those fine... I used to what you do, as well, drag 15-20 MP3 songs into Windows Media, then burn them in Audio CD format on a CD-R and play them in the car.

But, what it won't play is, if you dump 200 mp3s on a CD-ROM in computer data format (not Audio CD). :)

that is what the cd-500 will do, as well as most mp3 capable cd players, correct?
