View Full Version : '96 Nissan Maxima vs '93 325i
Thaniel 03-31-2007, 04:47 PM Ok. I had G-teched both car's so figured what would happen but couldn't resist seeing it in real life. On the way home last night I was following my wife in her '96 maxima (5 speed). I was in my BMW 325i (auto...So sad). We hit a red light with no other cars so I pulled along side. We've done this many times before with different cars we've owned and I'd nearly always win.
Anyway the light goes green. I stomp the gas The BMW surges forward while I hear slight tire Squeel from the Maxima to my left. I glance at the tach and it's at 2k and climbing slowly I curse the stupid auto and not being able to slip the clutch. In little more than a blink of an eye I'm staring at the maxima's tail lights. My foot flat on the floor and nothing else to do I just sake my head. Once the RPM's finally get to 4k the BMW can hold it's own against the maxima but It's now a full car length behind. I slide in behind the maxima. BMW's tail between it's legs and follow the maxima the rest of the way home.
carrrnuttt 03-31-2007, 09:17 PM What did each G-Tech at?
Ladzio 04-01-2007, 12:19 AM Yep, Maximas of that generation (I had one) can hold their own, especially that GXEs weigh below 3000lbs.
Nadroj 04-01-2007, 01:03 AM if the bmw wasnt auto ti would have been alot closer
Traian 04-01-2007, 01:15 AM Your wife sounds pretty cool :)

At that point it's a driver's race. Both cars are about the same in their potential (stick vs. stick).
Thaniel 04-01-2007, 12:01 PM What did each G-Tech at?
I only did a couple runs with each and only 1 full quarter mile with each but it was really apparent which would win.
I'm sure with more tries I could have gotten faster times but I didn't see the point (I have a modifed Rx-7 that is much faster. I G-teched the other's just for fun)
Maxima 1/4 mile was 15.9@89mph 0-60 was 7.3 (5-speed, open diff lots of wheel spin at the start)
BMW 1/4 mile was 17.6@81.1 0-60 was 10.2 (auto, Limited slip diff, wheel spin wasn't possible)

I like her :D
Pics of the wife?
I would but it's not really about the wife.....Well Maybe just a small one. Her and my 325i
Remonster 04-01-2007, 01:26 PM Weird, I was just thinking about a race against a '96 Maxima which truly shocked me, I never knew those little things were so quick. It was racing against my friend's modded WRX STI with ~320 all wheel horsepower and there was no doubt the STI was faster but the Nissan wasn't far behind. Both cars are owned by friends of mine so I know the Maxima was stock (and in dire need of an oil change at that).
theOCHO 04-01-2007, 02:48 PM Sounds fun. My 1993 Maxima 5sp could beat 325s too. It's too bad the Maxima evolved into the fat sack of crap that it is now.
NYY42 04-01-2007, 03:09 PM I raped a 2007 maxima 3.5 in my 325..

2007 Maximas only have the CVT (auto) transmissions available. I believe that you beat one, but I don't believe the 'raping' part, unless you have a list of bolt-ons to show-off that makes you as fast as an M3, as even the very heavy 2007 Max's are still high 14-second cars.
ModenaM3 04-01-2007, 05:09 PM That would be sweet to have a girlfriend/wife that would approve of doing such things.
If she has a sister, let me know.

I don't care if you are happy for me. You are the troll and have several thus-banned accounts on Bimmerforums. You need to get a life.

Tru dat, you would know, poser. :)
^ vaders are nice seats, why does that make you a poser?
If i do an ls1 swap, does that make me a poser?
speedemn 04-02-2007, 11:37 PM I had a 95 Maxima SE 5-spd before my 540 - which had quite a few NA bolt on mods. I honestly believe that it was on par, and sometimes believe that it might have even had my 540 (in stock form)! haha... it ran 13.8 @ 99mph (so I believe that my 540 would take it on top end or from a roll... but I wouldn't be able to doze off against the Maxima that's for sure!)
Bone stock, I ran 15.2@92.5 with that Maxima... which I believe is quite a bit faster than the 325i... the 95-96 Maximas weighed less than the same body 97-99 so get next to one of those in a manual tranny and it can shock you.
Cool wife though man! :D Mine's similar but only when she's in the driver seat! ;)

Maxima's are quick. If they weren't FWD I'd probably drive one. Oh. guess I should add my wife's maxima doesn't have any engine mods. I've upgraded the suspension for her as she said it felt floaty in the corners (KYB adjustable's all the way around, aftermarket rear sway bar and good tires). Speed wise though it's bone stock.
No mods either on my BMW YET.....They will come. My car will be the faster car :D
