View Full Version : Firebird This Weekend, Road Course
Phantom 01-30-2003, 02:31 AM Firebird MAIN TRACK, Gate 3
I'm doing a track weekend on Friday and Sunday at Firebird Main Track with Pro Autosports Arizona.
Anyone who wants to see what a car track day is like, c'mon out. Oh, and bring your helmet, too. You can ride shotgun.
Interested?? PM me, email me, or call me (cell: 623 640-2324). I'll be on track starting at 8 am Friday.
Here's a pic of me at Turn 4, Willow Springs Raceway big track.
We'll be on the Main track (the one incorporating the 1/4 mile drag strip). Enter at Gate 3, just past the large red roofed building and grandstands.
Gates open at 6:30 am. I'm running with the green group (Street Advanced), first session at 8:40 am.
There will be street cars, racing cars, stock cars, race-prepped Vipers, buncha Z06's, open-wheeled racers, spec Mazda's, Formula Renaults, a veritable potpouri of 4-wheeled speed machines.
Sign the standard track waiver at the gate, and c'mon in. I'll be in/on/around/under the blue M3 pictured below.
BRING YOUR HELMET, or you can borrow my spare.
Kelly
Have a good time Kelly, make sure to bed those pads! :)
whoa, u fly f-16s? that's awesome! i'm just on the little tiny cessna (training for an airline job). but i love flying into tucson on some nites and watch f-16's do touch-and-go's and landings; especially w/ those glowing blue strips all over the aircraft.
i assume ur based outta luke; do u guys do any flag exercies like the ones at nellis? is there a schedule posted somewhere, i'd be interested in flying out near one of the moa's and watch u guys duke it out :D
Iniquity 01-30-2003, 03:51 AM Sounds like fun... wish I could make it...
I believe Kelly is in the reserves nowadays J, but maybe he can sneak us onto the base in his trunk and we can hijack one of the simulators!
:D
lol, those full-motion sims are badass......i want one in my future dream house :D ......along w/ a hanger, an endless supply of coronas :drink1: , and an elevator..... ....haha j/k.
that track day sounds fun, i think i remember seeing some in-car video of someone doing a similar race at firebird w/ modded vipers and other cool cars. but i wanna go to driving school and probably autox before trying out group racing. and before that i wanna do some stuff to my car :devillook

Dude, I spent all day yesterday under the car, pulling the exhaust, heat shield, and driveshaft to get to the flex disc. Car is 12 inches off the ground, up on four jackstands. After 3 trips to Home Depot, 2 trips to Pep Boys (on the CBR600), pulled neck muscles, and innumerable expletives I finally got the new flex disc installed. Took me 12 hours alone.
Today: reinstall driveshaft, heat shield, exhaust, then rebuild front calipers, swap on slotted/cross-drilled rotors, inspect wheel bearings, install new Pagid Sport pads, bleed brakes (ATE Super Blue), balance tires, flush coolant, and swap aluminum coolant manifold for the stock plastic one.

jbob,
I flew F-16s for 10 years. Flying for FedEx now. The F-16 sims are stationary, but with awesome video graphics (kinda difficult and unnecessary to simulate pulling 9g, full-motion or otherwise).
The track weekend includes instruction. Check out ProAutosports website (http://www.proautosports.com/ARIZONA.html)
I'm just turning laps this weekend. Strictly non-competitive run group. My M3 is also my daily driver and I don't wanna swap paint with any cars or tire barriers trying for that last 0.1 second off my laptime.
By the way, I'm bringing an extra helmet, so as long as your cranium isn't freakishly large or small (GMat), you can borrow it on track.

Phantom 02-04-2003, 01:45 AM For the record, I bought new tires on Sunday (Goodyear GS-
CS track tires, 245/40 17) when I finished off the old AVS Sports (lasted 30k miles), and proceeded to spank several C5 Corvettes and a 400hp supercharged Mustang.
Bryan,
Glad you could make it out to the track. Also glad Autumn enjoyed the laps. Maybe she won't dis BMWs anymore, eh? Let me know how the presentation turned out.
By the way, you should come out to Firebird Main with the bike this Sunday.

Thanks for the hospitality - excellent as usual! Yeah, Autumn had a blast, and she gave our co-worker shit about his Z06 on Monday, LOL.
I'm gonna try to make it down the FB on Sun.
