Hadn't posted in here in a while so I thought why not. I saw some lights weaving thru traffic trying to get close to me last night. It was a couple year old Cobra Mustang. He wanted to race so I said what the heck. The problem is we were on a narrow 2 lane bridge doing 70mph which is 2cnd gear for me. I new if I unleashed the beast in 2cnd my rear end would start wagging and tires would be smoking so I put it into 3rd instead. Definate disadvantage but I wasn't too worried. AT least I wouldn't in up in the lake. I let him go first and get a running start from behind me. He was a probably at 80 when I hit it at 70. It only took me until 85 to blow past him like he was stnading still. I let it run up to 120(top of third) before I let him do the obligatory ricer fly by. The Z06 just never ceases to astound me at how fast it is.

I tried to get a 360 and a Gallardo to take the bait the other night but I think they new better.

Anything done to your Z06?

It has headers, tune, filter. It dynoed at 22hp more than stock.

while I think the C6's aren't quite as sexified as the C5's, the Z06 is an absolutely incredible vehicle... especially for the price.

It is fun. It almost gets boring knowing you are the fastest thing on the road 99.9% of the time. There's a guy that lives near me with a highly modified 996TT and can run just a couple car lengths behind me usually but never faster. My buddies Porsche GT2 is the same way. It hangs for a little and then starts fading quickly.

The Z06 just never ceases to astound me at how fast it is.

It never ceases to amaze you? You have pretty much the fastest car on the road with that kind of hp. Who do you really think is going to beat you? You're going to completely walk everything unless its highly modified. For racing others that can be boring. But for shutting people down its great. I call shutting'em down for example: when I see xenons roll up on me fast from behind on the highway. I'll slowly speed up to match them, they'll keep trying to pass me but they can't. I love doing that. The other example is when you go pass someone and you're already in front of them when you see their car lunge forward as to shut you out. I love it. Enjoy! Your car is beautiful.

I second the "sexy C5" opinion.
I think the base C6 looks extremely awkward from the front and especially back. It looks to me like a C5 coupe mated with a pre-'92 C4 and a D+ industrial design undergrad delivered the baby while gazing at an F360 out the window. The Z06 has just enough special touches to set it off compared to the base C6, but I for one still prefer the C5's overall styling. I'm not a huge fan of the C5 FRC/Z06 roofline(looks just like the 'vert with the top up), but the rest of the car makes up for it. I'm still in love with flowing, graceful, organic styling and dislike the current industrial trends---"flame surfacing," Bangle, et al. makes me slightly nauseous.

I was debating between a base C6 or C5 Z06 and finally resolved to get the C6 despite my slight issues with the styling, but that never wound up materializing anyway :rolleyes

Maybe a C6Z sometime in the next decade...

Like the other day when SRT8 Jeep tried to show me how fast he was.....Not! When someone tries to get over in front of me I typically let them in. Sometimes when I'm getting over I have to just "take it". It's not a crisis buddy. Relax. Show me your car so that if we cross each other on the highway I'll just let you pass so you don't have a heart attack. I usually try to play it safe. Unless the other car has 400+ rwhp it's usually a quick and painless process that doesn't require high speeds for victory. And when the occassional car suprises me, I smile. He's done his homework and I respect that. I love fast cars, even if I lose.

For 4800 pounds, the Jeep SRT's are damn fast, especially from a dig. It will blow away the X5 4.8, ML55, give the ML63 and the Porsche Cheyene TT a run, or even beat them. Not bad for a 40K price tag.

You're absolutely right! I'm an avid car enthusiast and as such I am very familiar with its power and torque not only to the crank, but also to the wheels:
Horsepower: 378.70 HP

Torque: 375.90 ft-lbs

. Those are big numbers even for cars putting that to the crank, but this is to the wheels. If I were stock it would eat me for lunch. But that isn't the case. At any rate, I will never be able to touch the New Z06.

I know that car basically craps on Gallardos, 360s, 430s, pretty much everything like that- but have you run an LP640, 599, 997 Turbo (obviously tuned, or some tuner version), anything REALLY worth mentioning?

and I'm surprised someone thinks the C5 is a better looker than the C6!!! I thought my father was the only one! He bought a used C5 because he doesn't believe corvettes should not have 'pop up' lights! The C6 is, IMO, one of the best looking vettes ever....I was never huge fan or had a desire for the C5. Now a C2 split window or a 67 427....I always lusted after those....

Yes there are. ECU reprogramming adds 40hp and 80lbs torque. That's not even including the exhaust upgrade. Have the heads ported with a nice 3 angle valve job and you really have people scratching their heads on the streets about what just happened to them. And the best part is no one ever expects it. After all, who mods jaguars? I'd say about 1% if that.

I posted a thread a while back about a night out when I ran into a group of guys. 1 Murcielago, 1 Ford Gt and 1 Gallardo. The only car that could stay close was the Ford GT and it won twice and I won twice. I won after I cooled my engine down a little. The Z loses hp when it gets over 150 degrees on the oil. My buddy has a GT2 that can't even stay close. And he won't even take his Viper out anymore. I just met a guy at the gym that has a 600rwhp Ford GT that I want to run. I'm sure he'll win but it will be fun.

I dynoed 466 stock and 488 modded. With 15% driveline loss it's near 575. I rounded up.

Thats another place where i will give Amercians credit, building engines that can produce (and withstand) unbelievable amounts of horsepower reliably.
Take top fuel for instance, those engines are still based ( and built) on the simple pushrod amercian V8, and produce 8000 + hp. We dont' see any other country producing engines ( that were car based) making anywhere near that kind of power, regardless of mods or technology. Maybe another reason why all the big powerboats, offshore race boats, motor Yachts, cruisers, and just about 99.9 % of inboard gas-powered speed boats use the GM Small Block & Big Block engines ? probally the ability to produce very high horsepower at full throttle for hours on end without breaking down or blowing up.

It's the trap speed that matters for roll on racing. Zs trap anywhere from 123-127. TTs trap from about 119-121. That's a big difference. Mine traps 127 consistently. Stock was about 125. The current record for a stock Z06 on street tires is 11.2 and 10.85 for street slicks. That's alot faster than any TT has recorded.

My uncle just got a heads/cam package done on his 300mi old C6 Z06. With a fairly mild cam and port job it put down 552whp/510wtq. Can't wait to drive it. :)

Why didnt they have the murciealago? The gallardo is the slower version. I thought the gt3 would have been faster than what it was.

The C6 is the only vette I like. I've driven one a couple times before and I was amazed. I can't imagine what it's like to drive the Z06.

For all of you that haven't seen the Top Gear episode with the Z06.....Do it. Season 8 - Episode 2.

I think a big difference for the 997 turbo is the sport chrono package which adds boost at full throttle for up to 10 seconds at a time, increasing torque from 460 to 505.


That Turbo that faced the Gallardo had that package as I could see the timer on the center console.


This should make quite a difference in road racing.

I was just reading up on that 599. They pulled some crazy times. Fater than the enzo to 60 and something like a 11.3/4 1/4 I beleive.

Computer engine software and tranny software apparently. To be fair I think it's about as fast in a straight line as the Enzo but on road courses it's been faster. It does an 11.2@130 in the QT, 3.4@0-60, 6.8@0-100, 10.3@0-125 and 15.3@0-150. It's damn fast one way or the other.

Nice car, I do like the New Vette the most. The only thing I don't like is that everyone has one out here (WV, VA, DC area) I prefer the s54 M roady :)

Computer engine software and tranny software apparently. To be fair I think it's about as fast in a straight line as the Enzo but on road courses it's been faster. It does an 11.2@130 in the QT, 3.4@0-60, 6.8@0-100, 10.3@0-125 and 15.3@0-150. It's damn fast one way or the other.


As far as competition goes, I just read a roadtest, and the 599 is right there with the Enzo - low 11's at 130 mph. It's about the only stock car that is drivable everyday that will put a hurt on the C06 vette. And for only 4x the price!!

You will probably have a hard time finding 'worthy' competition - that new vette is just insane! If the other guy knew his cars, he wouldn't have messed with you. Looks like you'll have to try running some bikes...:evil2

Well, your numbers are wrong. The enzo, which has 651hp and weighs 3000lbs, is faster than the 599GTB, which weighs 3800lbs and has 611hp.

Why would Ferrari destroy the value of their flagship vehicle by producing a higher production GT that was faster?

I don't think so. The Enzo was the flagship model a few years ago. New models always out do old models. Those numbers came directly from Road and Track road tests.

If the 599GTB is faster, then why does it get walked by both the carrera gt and the slr mclaren, when both those cars get walked by the enzo? The power to weight, cost and all other factors considered it just MAKES NO SENSE. Why would a 250k ferrari outperform a 1.1million dollar ferrari? You obviously have a lot of money in cars, yet know little about them (at least Fcars). Maybe you have better things to do, why don't you stick to them and stop making up retarded stories about how a car with less hp and more weight is faster than another.
