YOU SAID YOU"D TAKE PHOTOS!!!! :( Hugo 03-30-2007, 02:04 PM Ban Him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111111111 palomino 03-30-2007, 08:47 PM Ban Him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111111111 her. :shifty millertimebmw03 03-30-2007, 08:53 PM her. :shifty I got yelled at one time before ;) ha haha palomino 03-30-2007, 09:25 PM only because i bought an ASC switch that worked perfectly from you.... (this cost me 50 cents, ill have you know. :shifty ;) ) dont mock my duct tape either - i need a new 'dog ear' on this side. The red/black refers to one string, and the blue/blue refers to another seperate string. I tried to "dot" the line where the string goes under a bar or other string. Also, the over/under diagrams on the metal loops are accurate. Im not sure how important theit is to have the string over/under, but thats what ive got in my car. I can't even cross stitch. millertimebmw03 03-31-2007, 03:09 PM PALOMINO !!! So doe you think you could grab a photo of the spring for me and I'll see if i can hook somthing -up :) thanks again picaso :D palomino 04-01-2007, 08:50 PM PALOMINO !!! So doe you think you could grab a photo of the spring for me and I'll see if i can hook somthing -up :) thanks again picaso :D at #6, the rope comes up from below, through the ring going towards the front of the car, then across to the dog-ear. perhaps things are different between our cars, my top is fully automatic. :dunno millertimebmw03 04-02-2007, 01:00 PM perhaps things are different between our cars, my top is fully automatic. :dunno ANd yours is a 5-speed with a hardtop, I GET IT YOURS IS BETTER! :D ;) I'm giving this a shot today (if it stops raining :P ) amancuso 04-02-2007, 01:41 PM Mine is fully automatic too, it's important you string through the dog ears in the right direction, otherwise they won't sit properly when you put the top up. millertimebmw03 04-02-2007, 02:21 PM anythings better than its current state ha ha MParallel 04-02-2007, 05:02 PM her. :shifty No kidding!? :) MParallel 04-02-2007, 05:03 PM Does the wire go straight through the spring? There's 2 (I believe) repair kits concerning the dogears. I wonder how the fabric is glued on. I mean...you don't want to destroy the headliner if you need to replace the dogears. palomino 04-02-2007, 05:12 PM Does the wire go straight through the spring? There's 2 (I believe) repair kits concerning the dogears. I wonder how the fabric is glued on. I mean...you don't want to destroy the headliner if you need to replace the dogears. im not sure what you mean by 'wire' - i havent looked at how the spring is attached to the top. there is a loop at the top of the spring through, for the string to pass through. i have no idea how they get the headliner fabric to stick onto the dog-ears. mine came undone and ive tried so many types of glues and adhesives. thats why there is ugly duct-tape holding it in place - its the only thing that works. :( i think im going to drill some small holes along the edge of the dog-ears and sew the headliner in place. my passenger-side dog-ear needs replacing, so ill test out this idea on the broken one before i replace it.Mine is fully automatic too, it's important you string through the dog ears in the right direction, otherwise they won't sit properly when you put the top up. on that note, someone else with a fully auto top might want to double-check my diagram. the strings on both sides of my car's top have been replaced multiple times, so there's a chance something might be a little bit off. mine works fine as it is now, but if its not "the right way" - i dont want to lead others in the wrong direction, plus id want to change it! ANd yours is a 5-speed with a hardtop, I GET IT YOURS IS BETTER! :D ;) I'm giving this a shot today (if it stops raining :P ) well, its only better because it is owned by me. :paranoid:No kidding!? :) yes, it is true. :menani millertimebmw03 04-02-2007, 08:14 PM well, its only better because it is owned by me. :paranoid: duuuuh!!!! :worship: MParallel 04-03-2007, 07:38 AM im not sure what you mean by 'wire' .... My bad. Wiring is confusing to use here. I should have used the word string. Sorry, English is not my native language. amancuso 04-03-2007, 09:51 AM I forgot what I used to glue the fabric to the dog-ear. I think it was a two part epoxy good for plastics and fabric. palomino 04-03-2007, 07:56 PM I forgot what I used to glue the fabric to the dog-ear. I think it was a two part epoxy good for plastics and fabric. no problems with it? My bad. Wiring is confusing to use here. I should have used the word string. Sorry, English is not my native language. you type it very well. i just thought you used weird words occasionally because you are european. :) FLi GLi 04-05-2007, 04:06 PM I know alot of you all enjoy doing DIYs. I do myself. However, when it comes to my top i'm a little hesitant to DIY. This lead me to looking around for an upholstry shop to repair my log legs. For $120 the guy replaced the plastic piece on both sides and restrung/glued both sides. Very reasonable I though. Just a suggestion. If you can find a reputable upholstry shop in your area, you might find that the cost to have someone do it is not as bad as you might think (I know I thought it was going to be outrageous). Cheers, |
