So as some of you may know, my uncle is the general sales manager at the local BMW dealer (The Imported Car Store). On Thursday they got in the new 335 vert. So I HAD to go see it. It was just off the turck, the white stickers were still on the paint and the cardboard was still on the inside door panels. He was busy with some clients so I decided to play with it for a while (roof and stuff) and I asked him to bring it home. He did. :D

So that night we (family) were at his house and my dad started talking about that car, etc etc when we were getting ready to leave. My uncle was going to let him drive it, but my dad HATES the idea of turbos on a BMW. So I took the key, opened the roof, pushed start, and got my bro and cousin. Looked at the mileage, 93. And we went for a quick drive around the development.

As I left the driveway I put it into "M" and let 1st gear up ~5k rpms, and let off the throttle to engine brake. The sound is amazing. At the stop sign I turned, checked for kids and animals, none, its go time. I put my foot down, I hit 50mph and slowed down before the gate. I go to the local "test road" and open it up. The noise this car makes is perfect. Sure it can be a little louder, but its deep, not ricey, much better than the G35/Z exhaust. The spped is mind boggling. It feels faster than the coupe, mainly because there is a million miles of open air, and the noise and thrill gets to you. This car is much heavier than the E46 328i that I drive, but handels SO much better.

As we head back, we listen to some music, and even with the top open, it sounds really good. It could use a nice sub or two, but I'm not complaining.

I could rave on and on about this car, but it does have TWO and only TWO downfalls. 1. The price, this car had a few options, and the MSRP was around $55,000USD. 2. The trunk room with the top down, its low and kinda low. The only thing I use a trunk for is books and subs. So not a problem with me, but my dad complained about it.

Pro: Exhaust noise, headroom, power, handeling, sweet top, and the list goes on.
Cons: Price, trunk room with top down.

Do I want one: YES, but I am only 19, so I doubt its reasonable for me to have one. :(

I am usually a hard "grader" on cars, esp. newer BMWs. I give this car a 9/10. The price kills this car.

The 3er is no longer the "poor man's BMW". The 1series is going to take the place of that.

sounds like an awesome car, I would love to experience that. And I can't wait to see what some tuners do with it!

and not to put you down or anything, but you're supposed to let the engine break in for 5k miles before you really race it.

How was the throttle response? Any comment on that? I really liked the throttle response on the E90 330i that I drove... I was wondering about the turbo model.

The E92 verts are extremely heavy!

There seemed to be 0 turbo lag. In standard drive, the throttle seemed a bit laggish, but it sport and manual it was really nice.

I know your supposed to break the car in first. But this car is the demo, so it is going to get beat anyways. When I drive his cars, I am pretty easy on them.

Ive driven all the 335's out right now (work for BMW dealership). That engine is a work of art. Hardly any noticeable lag and a great powerband. It keeps going. The main thing i have noticed is the automatic tranny is a bit awkward at times. The throttle response is slower, unless you push the shifter in to S mode. Stick with the manual if anyone decides to get one. You wont be dissapointed. The way the vert retracts is awesome. All those moving parts may cause maintanace problems later, but it is damn sexy.

It hasn't really been a poor mans BMW since the E46's were released. Maybe beyond that.

IMHO, I don't think it ever was. $27,000 in 1989 was a shitload of money (that's the original cost for a 325iS). It's just a different market segment--some people who purchase 3-Series cars could afford 5-Series but don't need the extra room or weight, and want a smaller sports sedan. Thus, the 3-Series is absolutely perfect for these people.

Finally got to see and start ours up tonight.

Jesus Christ these cars are magnificent. the interior (Saddle/Poplar/iDrive) is incredibly nice, and the car itself looks like pure sex.

As in, your family got one, or the dealer?

I saw one, too, for the first time! It was on a major road, and the top was down. At first, being the car buff I am and always identifying every car model that I see, I was wondering, "wtf is that?" Then I realized, and I fell in love.

The 3 series up to the E90 has indeed always been the poor man's BMW, and the M3 has been the poor man's "european exotic".

My mom is interested in a 335 vert as well. An amazing refined car.
