These are pictures from the SPEED GT race on the Friday preceding the big race at Sebring last weekend. This is one of my favorite racing series going on these days..and these cars are getting fast! Fastest lap of the race (on a damp track, with slicks!) was 2:11.005.
This particular race wasn't too exciting. The #30 Whalen Engineering Corvette C6 driven by Eric Curran absolutely ran away with the race. Curran had qualified 2nd, and after a pass going into turn 1 on the first lap to gain the lead he increased his lead every lap to a maximum of 16.8 seconds :eek: . This was Curran's first SPEED GT win.
Defending series champion Lawson Aschenbach has moved to the Cadillac team for 2007 and had a strong showing at this race, finishing in 2nd place.
Here are the pics! :) I messed most of them up because I decided to use a UV filter and a polarizing lens at the same time....apparently that's a big no-no, as the combination has given my pictures a sort of tattered-old-magazine quality about them. Oh well...a few of them are pre-bad-decision; thankfully, I decided to go with only the polarizing filter for the main race the next day and they all came out well (which I will post later).
BTW, the new Viper is butt-ass ugly. Fugly like southern housewives.
