Pictures from last weekend's Star Mazda Championship race at Sebring. This race was lucky to have been run considering the rain that came before it. The Panoz race was cancelled after they sat in pit lane for 30 minutes waiting for the monsoon to end...there were puddles on the front straight that even the safety trucks had to slow down for!

Well the weather cleared up a bit so they sent the Mazdas out to go slip-slidin' around.

A little info on the spec cars run in this series:

Star Race Cars chassis, 1,090 lbs w/240hp Mazda "Renesis" rotary engine.

March 16, 2007 SEBRING, FLA. - Marco Di Leo was declared the winner at Sebring International Raceway Friday afternoon in the No. 21 Maxwell Paper Products Ross Smith Racing Pro Formula Mazda, after it was determined by race officials that the No. 7 Easternauts car, driven by James Davison of Velocity Motorsports, who crossed the finish line first with a significant lead, did not give back the positions he gained after going off track during the opening caution laps.

my bad man :)

it was still raining, and as I was borrowing the camera from a friend of mine I could only take pics of the SM race during the few very brief reliefs during the rain. I didn't have anything to cover it up with.

it looks to me that you actually got better pictures than Speed did. One of our cars had an onboard camera on it, but all that Speed could get was a cloud of water...
hell, Speed's cameras couldn't even see the spin on the front straight when they were going from the Turn 1 camera...

wow that must have been a horrendous race from a driver's standpoint. i still can't believe they even rolled the Panoz series out to try and start the race...it was a losing battle. Unfortunate that it was their last race for the winter series and points were awarded based on qualifying positions.

the main ALMS race is always on Saturday. The race "weekend" starts on Wednesday, with practices and qualifying, etc.

Friday is full of "support" races. IMSA Lites, Panoz championship, Star Mazda, SPEED Touring and GT series, Porsche GT3 Cup. These are short races (ranging from 30 minutes to an hour) that are pretty much able to be run back-to-back, so they all use the same track but they are all separate races.

thanks for the compliment :) I wish I had a photo/TV media pass, I would have been able to get some amazing shots.
